the intake manifold is tightened down pretty good and has nice new gaskets on the head part & front 2 back. any emission lines from the manifold that are no longer in use are blocked off now but i can always re-check that again i guess. it would be so helpful if someone who really knew lt1 engines that lived near lake Orion somewhat could help me figure out what the problem is.

well they are not that much different from a regular engine..... its more than likely a electrical problem aslong as you put everything together right!!!

it is definitely a electrical issue somewhere, no doubt about it. there was nothing wrong with this new engine besides the bad head gaskets which were caused by re-using old bad head bolts for 1, and a younger kid that was helping me jammed some of the LONG bolts into the portions on the cylinder heads that required MED length bolts .. so improper head seating there, gasket was just messed up a little and there was coolant all over the place.

maybe something shorted out somewhere ? i cant think of when and how though..

              Are you still back firring?

Are ALL your plugs wet from fuel?

What does your spark look like?
              Yellow/Orange or a White/Blue?

I know you say everything is new but I would do a compression test.

                Yes it is still backfiring.
Didn't check the plugs after these attempts .. good idea though
that would at least tell me that fuel is getting to them and determine a lot..

Ya, I'm trying to figure out if the fuel is getting there or if they are not firring?

If they are not firring then I would check to make sure that they are pushed on tight to the Opti.
The other thing I'm thinking is you might have something going on with your compression?
All cylinders should be with on 10% of each other or less.

A fast check is to pull the plug and have someone rotate the motor and see if it's building compression but an actual check is the best.

ill check the spark plugs first thing in the morning and let you know how they look, i know the plugs are tight on the opti i double checked that when i re-did the plug wires.
and i know its making good compression, when we were bump starting the car to do valve lash you could hear it from each cylinder as valves would open & close.

Another thing too -- if you had your wires wrong and you were getting spark at the wrong time, you might have a few cylinders that could be flooded from the gas. If you put the gas pedal all the way to the floor, it puts the PCM into "Clear Flood" mode which turns off the injectors but keeps the spark plugs going - that way any unburnt gas in the chambers will be burned. Worth a shot, would clear anything out if it's still in there.

JC, when you pulled your heads off did you drain the block 1st?
Did you remove the water pump when you did this?
                          Did you protect the opti?
