but the thing is it used to stay up high all the time when i first got it till about two weeks ago and i did an oil change last week and the past few days i have been smelling burning oil and it feels like it wants to stall at idle sometimes.

Actually I think that's a tad low...should be a minimum of 25 at idle and 50 or so at highway speeds...

that may have lowered it a bit, but not that much. Dont they suggest 10w 30 for lt1s?

How many miles on the motor? The oil presure sounds normal for a higher mileage engine. You can change oil pump by pulling motor mount bolts long one on each side and raising engine enough to clear pan. the easiest is to drop the engine. then you can change the pump and sending unit, and cam it. The oil pressure change you describe is really bearing wear, thats why I ask about mileage. I would check the main and rod bearings while apart. The reason the pressure drops when hotter is because of expansion on the bearings and oil flows easier thus lower pressure. Just my opionion

it is very common for LT1s to idle below the first notch on the gauge (20psi) which people freak out about.

factory service manual spec only calls for 6psi at 1000 RPM.

my car has 186000 miles on it and i idle alittle below the first notch on the gauge. the stalling thing could be alot of things from fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, a low idle from your idler screw, your egr could be stuck open......many things

at exactly 1000rpm i idle just above the first bar.

                                At 2000rpm i go over 40psi
