Hey all, I want to get something for my car before I leave O'Reilly's and get back to school and I just found this for sale on their website: http://www.jetchip.com/JET_Chips_Modules.asp

They list it for $440 but I'm pretty sure I get around a 20% discount or maybe better. I've heard that it's like $500 to get an LS1 tuned and this programmer really sounds a lot like LS1 edit or something like it.

    Anybody heard anything about it?

    Thanks

Also looks like I can get coated Pacesetter LT's for cheaper than at Summit too, just can't get their Y-pipe...

Unless you know what your doing you should leave it up to a professional to tune your car IMO. What do you even have done to justify having the car tuned to begine with? Most guys can run full bolt ons and be fine on the stock tune, but obviously the benefits from one at that point are worthwhile. Buy some headers first and wait and get a real tune.

If you know what your doing thatd be fine, but id rather have hptuners or ls1edit. If you dont know how to tune a fuel injected ls based motor. Take it to dr. phil and have him do it. Hes the best there is out there and wont charge you 500.

The thing is that I can get this tuning program for about the price of a hypertech programmer and it's a lot more customizable...I'll also be buying longtubes at the end of the summer. The price from O'Reilly's is like $440 but I can probably get it for around $370 with my employee discount.

It's something I'll eventually need anyways.

just because its a good deal doesn't mean you need it. If you don't know how to tune a car DON'T DO IT! I cannot stress enough how important a good tune is on any car, that is exactly why I leve it up to a pro. I own HPtuners and there are an immense number of variables and adjustable parameters to just jump in and start switching things. I'm only trying to help you out, I was there years ago and I wish someone would have told it straight to me.

So the tuner's starting to sound like a bad idea...maybe I'll just go for the longtubes before I leave for school. They really don't seem to have anything else I could really use. For instance, they have the pacesetter coated headers that I can get for like $400 and they don't list the y-pipe on their site. How much do O2 extensions usually run for and how hard is it to swap out headers/motor mounts assuming everything fits? I don't exactly have any opportunity for downtime until next spring a week or two after I'm out of school...But I might be picking up a new hood to do a custom scoop on tomorrow afternoon. Thinking of basically recreating the ram air scoops but with some louvers on the sides or something, maybe make the scoops taller.

I would definitely do long tubes first. Most headers come with o2 extensions.

Buy the longtubes, the extensions are not expensive and some do come with them as Spencer mentioned, but that would be more likely something that Pacesetter has put together. The install of the headers can be done in a day for someone that has never done it before but the motor mounts are gonna be a real biatch, I have never heard good stories of people installing them.

Also the hood idea you have is scaring me, please tell me you do body work as a job? Molding any type of scoop on a firebird hood is gonna be hard work, just save yourself the headache and 100lb hood you will have when its said and done and save up for a fiberglass piece.

Buy longtubes and a Flowmaster merge and have a reputable exhaust shop make you a custom ypipe.

You will see better gains from that than you will any "tuner".
