LT1s sucks balls! they especially don't handle boost well and I'm very sad to hear your motor is toast, build a forged 383 stroker and come back faster That was my buddys camm'd GTO that you raced as well I believe he has video of the carnage.

It just depends on how good you build it, Lt1's do not suck just because there older, Sounds like a ls1 fan boy here

Trust me, I have had the same luck. Bought a Dana 60, Chromoly DS, and Monster Level 3 clutch, got them all broken in and went to the track... blew it up first time out. Good luck on it being an inexpensive fix.

Lt1s aren't the worst motor ever, but I would personally never own one with the new technology of LSx motors. Why build a stroked LT1 just to make the same power of a H/C LS1 car? Look at Red's motor, its a pretty decent build with great heads and a big cam and most cam only LS1 cars will walk away from hers.

I'd look for a cheap ls1 longblock .... or wrecked donor car... they can be had for cheap

Thats exactly how I feel my brother. I would say more but its just going to turn this thread into a huge LT1 v. LS1 debate

I know of a cam only goat with a slipping clutch that would not mind taking a piece out of any H/C LT1 car.

no the vortech mustang pulled on the goat!!

Me and some buddies got the car torn down to a shortblock, and the pass headgasket is cooked! phew, it also bent a pushrod in the cylinder that let go. and the driver side headgasket was about to let loose, they were cheapo rubber gaskets. So il order up some hardened pushrods, ARP head bolts and copper gaskets and slightly port the heads.
ONE OTHER COOL THING WE FOUND OUT WHEN THE HEADS CAME OFF IS THE MOTOR IS NOT A 350!!!!!!!!
                                It's been bored over
