  • Another LT1 Question

Hey guys, our red 95 Z28 has a hard time starting... it cranks for a while before firing up, If you prime it twice it starts pretty much right up.

I'm thinking this is a fuel filter thing because the car doesnt sputter or miss, if it was ignition or spark the would be other symptoms... but once its running it runs like a champ.

anything else it could be or is it the filter?

ive heard if the filter is clogged then it would sputter while its running

Usually a filter will starve the gas at higher RPM or accel.

Not to say its this, but right before my opti failed it would have a hard time starting. Would turn over for a while and then fire. It also ran good once started up, which was misleading. I dont think its this, but dont rule it out.

A filter is cheep so your not out a lot if it don't fix the problem.

It's a good place to at least start because you don't need a ton of tools to do it.

maybe you have a leak in your fuel line, not a big one but enough to loose prime, since you say once you prime the motor i would almost say the fuel pump is going bad, check fuel pressure blead off.

Yes but that doesnt fit with the once you prime it it starts... if it was a spark problem adding fuel would not make it spark better.

ICEPICK how much fuel pressure is supposed to be there 32psi??

should be 42 psi to 45 if you have a good pump.

definitely start with the filter if its a suspicion at all, theyre cheap and easy to replace.

Well i checked the fuel pressure and on the first key on, 0 psi... on the second 47 psi

I changed the fuel filter and like i thought no fix, just did it for the hell of it... any thoughts before i tackle the fuel pump?

why on the first key it dont work then anytime after it works great?

i have the same problem with mine. my dad says that there is a check-valve in the fuel pump that keeps the pressure up after you shut off the car. but if it faulty then it releases the pressure and it wont start on the first try after its been sitting. if this is the case, then u need a new fuel pump. i hoped it was this easy for me, but my fuel gauge is off so i need the whole fuel sending unit which is ~$500 our cost8-O. OUCH!

yeah thats what it does.. to a T, as soon as it sits for more than a few min, it wont start right away.

and yeah that sucks ass about the 500.. but here it would probably be 1,000 so your a little lucky.. lol

but if you dont need the whole sending unit, summit and jegs have just the pump for around $150
