  • I am extremely relieved

I have been thinking my car has had very low oil pressure for a while now. It would show about 40psi on a cold start, about 20 warmed up at idle. Today i got a mechanical oil pressure gauge and it read about 60psi cold start and never dipped below 45psi even at 210*. I went up to murrays and got a new oil pressure sending unit. The results were the same. The old sensor must have not been working correctly, i find it weird it gave any reading at all

Mine used to just entertain me when I drove. It would randomly drop to zero, and I'd just flick the guage and it'd pop back to wherever.

lol i was scared. I just rebuilt mine, while doing so i put in a new oil pump and pick up tube so i knew it should have decent pressure

Yeah, the stock GM gauges are known to suck sometimes.

i dont think it was the gauge, with the new sensor it showed up the same as the mechanical gauge

i got out my multimeter and the one that shows lowere oil pressure has more resistence

Strange - mine always shows about 60 at cold start but 20 at warm idle and I figured that was normal.

I think that was normal for the 3.4, he has the 3.8 however, which seemed to have 60lbs regardless of temp or rpms.
