  • LT1 Question

Hey all i have a 94 Z28, The battery keeps dying on me after a few days... its not getting driven right now, sometimes it makes this ticking noise from under the dash and doesnt stop unless i key the ignition.

Also the time on the stereo stays on... always, it never goes off.. my 95 doesnt do that either, is that a common thing for 94s or is there likley and issue.

Sounds like you have something wrong with the wiring... if the battery keeps dying after a few days, it's probably being drained or the alternator is bad. The clicking/ticking noise- does it sound like a relay?

Yeah i think it is a relay... it started after i was getting some bad gas out of the car through the injectors, and i keyed the ignition on and of about 100 times.

Stupid but i had no choice. What relay would that be?

I cant see it being electrical as there are no other issues but i think that relay is what is killing the battery.

Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the interior wiring to be able to help out.

Ok you need to drop the kick panels under the dash, when it is clicking and find what relay is clicking it could be the module that retains power to radio, windows etc untill you open the door. (I forget the name of it). Your radio is wired wrong, all lights should be off when key is off.
Start the car and measure the voltage at the large terminal on the altenator it should read 13.5 to 15 volts if your alt. is working. At same time you should read same voltage at battery. 15 volts = alt. charging battery. 13.5 = battery full charged.

I am not an expert and I don't claim to have alot of knowledge. But, would it be possible that keying the car on and off repeatedly like that could have caused the relay to short and the heat from it shorting itself on and off repeatedly like cause it to weld itself ON? Therefore leaving the accessories powered draining the battery?

I guess anything is possible. You need to locate what is clicking
