  • Cig Lighter thingy majigger problem

Ok so I went out and bought another radar detector...the first one I had was a pretty good cobra one..worked fine but had to take it back because i needed the money..i had like 93 days to take it back i took it in 92 lol

    so

Now I go ot and buy another one....and my cig. lighter thing wont work. It wouldnt really work when I had my other detector because i had to like hit it or mess around with it a bit in order to get it 2 work..

    ok so question is

how the hell do I fix this thing so I can get it 2 work!

Replace it. Cheap to buy, and simple to install. Advance has them in the Electrical section, it may even fit in the stock place.

Probably just have a loose wire in the back. Unhook your battery, pull out the cig lighter, and check the connections. Probably have to do a bit of soldering.

If you drove a bird, you would have 2 cig lighters. Razz Anyway, check the wires, if not it should be a simple fix. Those cig lighter things cost a few dollars. You may not even need to solder. Just cut wires appropriately and wrap with electrical tape.

I think the wires have a clip that goes on that back of the cig lighter, check to see if it's tight and is making a good connection. MOst likely it!

Ok I just ripped out the damn thingy..looked took apart the clip..its kind of hard working with very very limited space..especially if yuo can stretch it more towards you..and uh..the wires seemed to be in place..i just tightened it more..shoved it back in..tried it out..and nothing still..

My SS has two outlets also, so it is not just a bird thing. Spread the clips a bit so they bite a little bit more when put back together...

Has the lighter been used? If it's rusty/dirty/corroded it won't work well or at all. Try cleaning the inside of it with a wire brush. Check the fuse too to make sure it's not blown. Also check the tip of the radar detector plug for the fuse in that to make sure it's there and it's not blown/broken.

yeah. check your fuse. I doubt ti's in the engine bay with the relays so check on your driver side fuse panel

Here's an idear: don't waste your time using a chitty setup like using your cig lighter. Cut the 12v cig lighter plug off the end of the radar's cord, put the radar where you want it, run the wire under the dash pad or tucked into the headliner depending on where you keep it and run it over to the driver's door. Ground it using one of the ground locations under the dash, and shove the positive wire into the 12v radio fuse (top left fuse) and tada you have a clean install.

I used to do something similar... I'd get a plug from Radio Shack and hardwire to my car, and save the cord with cig plug for when I moved it temporarily to another car.

I'm thinking of hardwiring mine in, but I will have to cut a small hole in the dash pad to make it look as clean as I want it to look. Hesitant to do that, I don't like poling holes in parts of such an amazing peice of american technology. . . Ah, what the hell. I'll do it. lol
