Stainless headers shouldn't need to be coated at all. Stay away from SLP they suck balls, hooker and pacesetter seem to be the best priced and they all do the same thing.

That is actually an awesome price for stainless steel headers...anybody know anything about this brand....im seriously considering buying these. also i want to try to keep my emissions legal in case i have to move out of state to get a teaching job this fall so i would more than likely put a catted Y pipe on it and get rid of the stock cat. Do i have to buy a Y pipe that is made by the same brand or will any Y pipe do the trick? I just want to make sure that my car is not throwing codes and have that dreadful check engine light on constantly.Originally posted by meissen View PostLast edited by 1qwikSS; June 23rd, 2009, 08:56 PM.sigpic

I love my pacesetters, never worked with a header that fit so well. Didnt have to touch a thing. They just fit. Theres a little rust on them but theyve been used for 3 years. Not sure about you but I dont check out my collectors and show them off to my friends on a daily basis.
You cant pay enough for fitment. I installed a set of stainless LPP headers on my buddies ls1 this weekend, what a PITA, I had to beat the living daylights out of one of the primarys as it hit the motor mount tower.1999 Camaro - 6 liters of fury.....

I hate to say it dude but fitment on ALL of the long tubes are 100% dependent on the vehicle and the motor mounts. I've heard just as many stories about pacesetters not fitting, and even the more expensive Kooks headers having the exact same fitment problems that LPP has.Originally posted by sman View PostI love my pacesetters, never worked with a header that fit so well. I can tell you, though, the first time we installed my LPPs I had tons of primary-to-kframe clearance. The 2nd time around, not so much. The difference? My brand new poly motor mounts had 80 miles on them and weren't as stiff.- Brian Meissen

Cheaper pacesetters that rust out and need replacing within a few years or a little more expensive stainless steel headers that, while being a pain to install, once installed will never rust and last a darn long time...

it would take a long time for any header to rust through Brian, plus I coated mine with POR-15 for cheap and they look great and should hold up just fine, if not they are so easy to take off and put back on its an easy winter project. I've never heard of clearance issue with pacesetters on an LS1 car.Doing less with more

If you dont drive your car in the rain you wont have any problems with coated headers.
Ive had mine for at least 4 years now and mine have only barely started to rust. Ive driven it in the rain a handful of times too.
Im going stainless next time for sure, but headers arent going to rot bad unless youre driving in a lot of precipitation (and definitely salt). When water hits an 800 degree surface, it tends to accelerate the process just a little. My uncle had a set of hookers on his AAR cuda that lasted from 1985 until just last year before a hole developed, and if you know your history they didnt have coating back then
That car probably has 150,000 miles on it too so its been driven.

I'm tempted by those LPP's because of their price, but the fitment does mean a lot to me because I don't have a lift or any real access to one or really a garage to work in...the cheapest pacesetter's seem to be about $320 and that's just painted. As for cats I'll just run O2 sims right now and then find a spot for them later on if I move out of state. Think those LPP's will still be the same price next year?

I have done 4 different headers this year on 3 different cars (LT-1) and I love the Pace Setters.
Easy plug access and installation was good too.
The other 3 that I did were:
Jet Hot
Hooker
LPP - Returned because they didn't fit, LT-1 car.
And like every one else said, if you stay out of the rain the coated ones work great.
I do know that Derek bought a set of the 200.00 stainless ones off ebay for his LS car but I don't know how they fit
I have Hookers on my car for the past 5 yrs and they only have surface rust and still look decent.
