  • Headers or rockers?

So I figured out that I actually have a little bit more money than I thought I did, the thing is I won't have time to really work on my car until next spring unless it's a one or two-day project ie: rocker arms. I'm thinking on a set of 1.8:1 ratio rollers but they're like $400...or should I just wait and get a good set of headers and an ORY? Anybody have any luck with pacesetters? And is there anything you can tell me about the 1.8:1 Rockers so far as gains go?

    Used to own a Firebird.

x2 - and you can get a decent set of stainless steel headers for about the same price, if not less.

along with Vinnie i would like to know a lil bit about the pacesetter headers. How did they fit...were there any adjustments needed....(grinding down the k-member etc..). Also what are the advantages of having the stainless or armour coated ones rather than just painted ones....other than the obvious fact of a shiny header that looks good. I know stainless doesnt really rust but i never drive my car in the rain or snow anyways so is it very beneficial for me to buy stainless or armour coated other than looks?

My year old Pacesetter ceramic coateds are already starting to rust on the bottom, and have only seen rain about 7 times. I'd hate to see what painted ones look like after that. Go with stainless if possible.

My painted headers rusted before I even drove the car! If you can afford it, get 'em coated, but not chrome, chrome discolors the first time you turn the car on.

The unfortunate thing about Chrome is it is heat sensitive. Saw that with every exhaust I put on the bike till I got "double tubed" ones, meaning that there are two pipes. One big and a smaller one inside, there are cooling holes in places you can't see and the outer pipe is chrome. As far as I have seen, this is the only way to keep chrome on pipes. If they did this system for cars (judging that they were over $400 for the bike), they'd just be way out of a justifiable price range.

i have ceramic headers there like a chrome, they have rust spots all over, well little bit, i just rub them out and they go away, i've had them for a year. if i got to long tubes there gonna be stainless.

So it seems like buying stainless longtubes and then having them coated would be the absolute best...now what brand fits best? I know SLP's are ridiculously expensive, Pacesetter's seem nice though.

And do you basically have to pull the front end off of an LS1 car to change out the cam?
