  • i need someone's help

hey guys i am in need for someone to come up/down/over or for me to meet them to do some testing with my car. My car has been acting funny for a long time after my ls6 intake ..there was a vacuum leak..i fixed that..but now i am getting new dtc codes..at first it was a throttle positioning sensor error along with the lean on bank 1 and 2 dtcs...so i changed the sensor out...that code went away..but then a idle air to high code appeared along with the lean on both banks...so i had my car smoked and looked over all my pcv etc and everything is good..so i am pretty sure its either my iac valve or my maf....so i need to swap mafs or iac to see if the code goes away...if it does then i will have to fork the money over for one of the sensors...by the way i have a 98 trans am ..so i will need a ls1 maf and iac ..so any help will be appreaciated guys ...i live in shepherd which is right by mount pleasant ..so 2 1/2 hours north of detriot

get some MAF cleaner. then pull it off and spray it out first
with a scan tool check the IAC count. If its really low then there is a vacuum leak. Did you change the rear coolant cross over when you changed intakes?

yup cleaned the maf already..i also cleaned the iac....what scan tool will i need ? a tech2 ? i have a feeling i should just take it into the dealership and have them troubleshoot it ......yes i changed the coolant lines to the ls6 style. i broke the knock sensor wire clips also as i was supposed to

yup running a kn filter..but i cleaned my maf already..the resistors (i am pretty sure thats what they are) are shiny silver so they dont have that dull black/brown all over them.

i should go more in-depth actually..........the lean condition is very sporadic...some times it will be on for 20+ miles ..sometimes it will be on for less then 2 miles.....before all of this i fought a vacuum leak after my intake install..it was a bad seated gasket and my pcv hosing was rotted out..so i repaired both and the idle immediately improved...then after a while it came back with those new dtcs....when the SES is on and those codes are thrown..the car actually idles better..but it will have more of a rpm surge condition...this only happens in park..when in gear its fine...when the light is off..the car will hesitate more and dip in the rpm..but wont surge...the randomness of it points me to a sensor issue...my car is 11 years old so its not out of the question...i feel as if the maf is reading low ..causing the O2s to report back more air then expected (due to the maf reading low) ..so it triggers a lean on both banks dtc and then starts to add fuel to balance out the "fake" a/f ratio..when in all reality the extra fuel it is adding is bring the "real" a/f ratio back into specs due to the maf reading lower amounts of air..so less fuel then what is really comming through....that or my iac is shot..so its allowing more air into the system at idle/low speed then what is being commanded..also giving it a issue....this is my theory at least

does it have a cam? the high IAC is commone on cars with cams
o2 sims? I have seen more than a few people plug 02 sims into the front 02's instead of the rear

Unplug the MAF while the car is running. If the car runs better without it, the MAF is likely your culprit. You could also unhook the battery for a few minutes, then start the car, it will force the computer to relearn idle and other parameters.

                    It is worth a try.

it is about time for me to do that...

I had a problem just like this a the other day until after the M&G.. Kind of a stupid question, but is the MAF a stock one? My problem was that I was running a Granatelli MAF. As soon as I got a stock one put on, it went away and runs perfect.

ok update..neither the maf tap or the idle relearn helped.
