  • LT1 timing chain cover

Ok, well I've got a little bit of a leak and think it's coming from some place around the timing chain. Not sure if its the actual gasket or the seals on it. Anyone have exprience with this? And someone remind me, is there enough room to get the cover off to change the gasket without taking the opti off or no?

are you positive about this? because i thought i had this to after my Old rebuild and it was my intake manifold slowly leaking under the waterpump.

the only thing that could actually leak on the timing chain cover is the Optispark spot. never happened to me, or the Oil pan spot depending how much silicon you used, i dumped silicon all over my motor this time and im damn proud of my lt1 now.

Your gonna have to take off the opti in order to even move the cover, its not even that hard the hardest part is removing the harmonic balancer. which isnt bad.

I just put new intake gaskets on a month ago. This pisses me off because I leave for the Power Tour on Friday. Just my luck.

its a common leak, and it is usually between the cover and the oil pain.

            not a fun job.

good luck, i recommend using Permatex instant gasket, very good product.

One of the bolts holding the cover to the opti was completely loose, wtf? Does that hole go all the way through the cover? If so I think I found the problem.

It did have oil on it, so I'm hoping that's it. Put some sealant on it just in case.

Unless your harmonic balancer is misaligned and rubs a hole in your timing cover...like mine did when I got my IROC way back when.
