  • What shocks should I use?

I ordered the BMR 1" lowering springs. I want to replace my shocks and I really don't know what to get. I was just going to get Monroe factory replacements and someone said no. I then was thinking about saving up some more for the Bilstein HD's and someone said those are not made for lowering springs?.?.? I understand that you should have the shocks re-valved for the spring you are using but I dont want to spend $500+ on shocks. What do you guys think? Im really not that picky on how my car rides. I just want it to feel tight.

go to www.Stranoparts.com . Sam is the owner. i personally haven't dealt with him but from what i've read, the guy is suspension god. Give him a call, tell him what you have and what your looking for and he can point you in the right direction. Hope this helps

Sam will just tell you to get Konis. They're really expensive but supposed to be good. If you're not picky about what you get I have a take off set of DeCarbons from an SS for $125. They were ones SLP removed to put the Bilstein suspension on the SS with that option. I bought them for spares but decided when I lower my car I'll probably go with something better like Konis.

Yep, Sam will try to get you to get the Konis and sell you on how easy they are to adjust and all.

Sam IS the person to talk to for handling, especially for road courses.

Myself... I decided to go for Bilstein HDs and G2 springs, the G2 lowers the car some and they suggest getting the Bilstein HDs to pair with the springs.

I talked to Sam last week. He suggested Koni's or at the minimum Billstien HD's. Problem is, I can't afford either of those right now. So I bought off the shelf Monroe Sensatracs at Advance. No, they aren't the best shock. I am however not road racing, I just need a decent ride. Did they help, absolutely!!! They stiffened the suspension and improved the body roll and handling greatly. I have to believe it handles as good or better than it did stock/new. For now they are good enough. I'm happy, I can now take corners on the highway at 80+ mph again. Part of that is probably attributed to the new sway bar end link kits I put on. They are $6.18 per at Advance and that's with urethane bushings. Cost me $25 to upgrade and change out those worn out cheap plastic ones with the small bolt.
