  • Camaro misfires under load

SO i dont know why i am finally to getting around to just now asking this but

a year or so ago i took my camaro through a drive thru car wash and during the last rinse/spray it all the sudden starting misfiring and i could hear a kinda clicking nose that sounded like a spark plug firing ...it soon went away and i just thought eh that was weird. well it has been doing it ever since. it doesnt do it when the engine starts up but about 10 minutes after driving if i floor it the car will misfire when its in gear and doesnt have full power. but if its in neutral( i have a manual) it never misfires except occasionally at idle and it sounds liek a spark plug ticking kinda simialr the noise to a grill igniter. i uped the idle a little bit with my tech 2 and it goes away while its up around 1200 idling but if it drops lower or is in gear and i am flooring it it will misfire. i have changed the sparks n wires and pretty mch everything but it still does it. it just keeps sending the misfire code to the tech 2 in the same cylinder, i normally dont care since its my winter car but it god really bad one day where i could tell i dont even think the spark plug was firing at all. then i shut the car off for about ten minutes and poof it was gone again and ran fine for the next ten minute then again id hear the click click click noise...... any ideas?

thats what i would think, mine did that and it turned out to be a broken plug, had the car running in the dark in my garage and could see the spark. not sure now but dont think the fuel pump would cause a miss, just a hesitation.

You may also want to take a look at the module that the coils packs sit on. I had that happen once. Only started acting up when I went through a car wash. Turned out that every coil pack the parts store had was bad. I know, rare occurence, but we also looked into the module. Anything that can get wet that has to do with ignition. I ended up getting all three coils from Summit and haven't had a problem since.

Couple of questions, what kind of car? do you have a garage? In stead of throwing parts at it, put the car in a garage and shut the door so its as dark as possible. then while car is running ( be sure to put hose from exhaust to out side) take a spray bottle of water and mist the wires and around each of the plugs. then the distributor or what your car has (Hopefully not and optispark). Each time look for arcing to engine or grd.
Electricity will take the path of least resistance to grd. So bad plug or wire coupled with water to conduct will arc to engine. When not wet will work some what like your expirencing.
