  • A smoke show that isn't so cool

Well I have had gremlins in my car for the idle and I was having a hard time figuring it out. Well then this weekend I was putting miles on the car and it really started acting up as it would stall out while cruising and throw a MAF code PO101. Did some brainstorming and thinking there is still a vac leak somewhere.

Today I hooked our smoke emissions machine to the vac line just to see if there are any leaks that the starter fluid hasn't picked up. Well lets just say the engine bay was leaking all over. lol. I think I found out my issue for rough sporadic idle and cause of my stalling issue. There are about 5-6 places that are leaking smoke out when I put the machine to it!!! One spot is right out of the lower manifold where a hex plug is MIA! So smoke is bellowing right out of it, lol.

So tonight I will be tidying up the leaks and see if I am a bit richer now, lol. I will need to retune it for sure as I most likely am way off with the a/f ratio once the leaks are fixed. Should maybe bring some more power as well, so cross your fingers.

Maybe now I can finally get this car running smooth enough for the meet and greet.

I sure hope it fixes the issues I have been having. Seems like all headaches since it has been started, lol.

I just want to drive it and not worry about it, lol.

Those smoke machines rock. Save you so much time in diagnosing leaks.

question, has anyone else hooked a machine up to a cable driven car and notice smoke coming out of the shaft hole where the tb spring is? There really is no way to seal that spot, so wondering if it is normal for it to come out there. I tried two tb's and both leaked out the shaft area where the spring is. Figure it probably is due to clearances for the shaft to turn
