  • Jet Chip Question

Hey guys I have a couple of questions for you.

    1. What do you guys think about the Jet Stage 2 performance chip for the LS1, I've had it back in the day with it was first out, I think the first month it was offered. I've notice a difference when I only had catback and an air intake but now-a-days where they can tune specifically to your car. Which brings me to my second question.
    2. Where around the Pontiac/Clarkston area is there shop that tunes LS1 comps. who do you suggest and whats the prices (so I know how much to save)?

Let me know what you guys think

I know its totally different then the LS1, but... in OBDI land they preach up and down not to waste your money on "stage" chips as there is no way a company can make a chip for your car, without having your car.

For the $100+ or whatever they cost I bought all my ECM tuning stuff (cable, USB converter, chip burner, chip adapter, chips, etc...)

OBDII is all foreign to me though.

Yeah I know what you mean, its more of a broad improvment to the stock tunning, where as a tune would be more specific to my car. This was also way back in the day before they hook a laptop and a dyno to your car to get it perfect. My biggest question is who tunes them around here.

        Close the thread

Upon further review I am pulling it out of my car... Now all I need is a place to tune my car.
As for this thread, thanks for you help, this can be closed now, I should have read into it more but that was also more than 3 years ago when I bought the chip.

Did you find out what the rule of thumb is for the OBDII guys?

            No.
Thanks for your help, I decided to just toss the damn thing, I should have read into it more, but that was also more than 3 years ago so not that big of a deal. Learn from my mistakes and throw it away.

But I would still like to know who does custom tuning in the Pontiac/Clarkston/Anywhere else close area.

Chips are for eating, do away with it. With your mods so far you really don't need a tune, so I would wait until you do something bigger like Heads and cam or FI. If you really just want the very most out of what you have you can go see Sean over at CARS, he is a sponsor here and tuned my car as well. Tunes run anywhere from $400-$550+ though, depending on the place, whch is why most people hold out.

If you want a cheap alternative for now till you have some more mods you can do what I did and get a handheld programmer. You can probably get a HPP3 for $100 or less. While the tune isn't worth much, if anything at all (most say its not) you can change your shift points and shift firmness, as well as if you were to get a lower temp thermostat you can change the fan switch temp as well. You can also change your gear ratio or wheel/tire size if you ever do either of those. But changing the shift points, shift firmness and lower temp stat will make it perform better IMO. You could spend more on a better handheld tuner but again, with your mods, probably not worth it till you do more as they cost as much as a good dyno tune.

                  thanks

Cool, thanks for the help guys. I haven't driven the car yet but my brother says it feels stronger now in the top end. Also heads and Cam are on the list, it may take some time save up for it. In a couple of weeks I'm sure I'll take it back out to Lapeer to test out the improvement, I'm also waiting for my bro to get his new manifold for his evo so he has some new parts to test out as well.

                  Thanks again
