    love to hear all info....
my car is totaly stock.. looking to pull the motor and get started..
anyone know the best set up for this was looking at the cc503 cam

              M6 (6-Speed) or A4 (Auto)?

              What's the budget?
A stroker with heads and all the goodies will cost about 6-7g's.

If you want a cam and some nice upgrades with a tune your looking at 2-3 depending on the route you take.

              LT-1's can be fun

If you want a low speed high torque motor, look into building a 400 SBC. They don't like to rev real high but have ample amounts of low end torque. I had a 406 in my IROC for awhile and it was a blast to drive around on the street, but was really anemic when you wanted to wring it's neck at anything above 4500rpm. Having had that motor and now my LS1..I can tell you I would take the high reving LS1 anyday over the 400.

                  Stroke = torque

                  It's that simple.

Making 500 torque with a small block will be somewhat challenging...and expensive.

James's suggestion of the 406 is probably the cheapest way to make big torque with a small block.

But it's still just teasing you.

Be a man...cut the inner fenders and drop in a big block...

                      well actually...

Displacement or boost or nitrous = torque

If you want to speak NA, then the simple rule is Displacement = torque

                      Look at it this way

Typical NA engines are about 10-11 Bar BMEP, high performance engines are up to about 13... and very well built engines top out at about 14ish bar BMEP

(BMEP = Brake Mean effective Pressure) Basically torque/Displacement

You dont want to over cam it. BIG cubes, mild solid roller. It will be a trade off of top end hp for low end torque. Unfortunately its a case of you cant have your cake and eat it to. If it were me (and im waiting for someone to do this). I would use one of the recently released aftermarket LT1 blocks. Try to build 42? cubic inches with some medium port heads and a mild cam. You might only build 400 to 425 hp to the wheels, but ill be willing to bet that you will almost break 500 lbs of tq. Try to keep your overlap on the cam under control and I would think you would want a tight lobe seperation. Hope this helps, Eric L

I agree that a stroker with a smaller cam is the way to go, especially for driveability. If you are making all sorts of torque down low, then you don't have to worry about running the a/c and such. That's why I went with the setup I did...because having a huge stall is no fun on the street.
