  • Building up GM 3800 II

Okay. So I have heard people saying this all the time. "You should install power adders without improving bottom end support". What does this really mean. Also what is the best way to do this. How should I start this process? Can I have a logical progression of installations for a 9 second V6? Thank you.

P.S. Please don't recommend me selling it and getting a T/A. I know this would solve the problem but I want to learn on my car before I ever touch a T/A. I think many of you can relate after hearing about the assbag with the LS1 incident.

a 9 second 3.8l fbody....the fastest ones are running high 11s right now. Therefore there is no certain way to run 9s because nobody has done it yet with the 3.8l fbody. There are a couple gtp's doing it, one has a dual power adders and there is another one that is a track only turbo car. Both are company sponsored rides as well.

Thats what Nicks brother in law told me. He said the Mi Grand Prix club has 9 second Grand Prix's. Also how does an 11 sec V6 compare to most T/As and Z28s?

all motor street legal car you can get low 13s with a solid heads/cam/intake package from abbotts racing, then you would need to throw a power adder onto it to get any faster. A torque converter will help as well, common 1/4 gains from a TC are like .5 seconds off.

You need tuning to take advantage of your mods. I have been playing with my tune the last 2 weeks and I have really woke up my car. I bet I gained .3-.4 seconds from tuning, need to get to the track to verify and work on it some more. I was in need of a tune so bad because I have a full bolt on car and things needed to be changed in the tune.

Send your PCM to texas-speed.com for a mail order tune and you will be really happy and in the 14s with your NA car.

i know i saw a fast 3.8 f body it was full race and twin turbo but it was in the mid to lower 9's with alot of boost ill see if i cant track down the video for it... the 3.8 has plenty of different mods and upgrades you can choose from... the only real problem is the lack of room you have under the hood.. you could pick up a cheep aftermarket Grand Nash turbo kit but it wont with without cutting and moving of alot of parts... a 3.8 will move but you need plenty of room. turbos and superchargers are not small...lol

cent. superchargers, and turbos fit no problem in the engine bay. Roots blowers take a lot of custom work to the firewall/winshield and such to fit them.

1 or 2? lol it wouldnt be hard to pull 10's and lower with twin's and some weight shaved out... 3.8's take to boost like candy any little bit you add no2 or forced induction they really come alive...

and the nice thing is you could always turn the boost down and get your gas millage back... but it would cost figure engine build up to handle it plus twin turbo your gonna get into the $15,000 range easy using name brand products..

Well where should I start. My car isn't ready for nos or turbo/super charging yet. What parts should I have installed first before them?

I would like the first couple support mods to be under $500.

exhaust, intake, gears/lsd (z28 takeoff rear with 3.42s works great) are the 1st mods you should get
