  • LT1 Breather Filters?

    Hey guys,

Question - my Canton valve covers have an open hole. Obvious idea originally was to use a breather... until I read that you're introducing a vacuum leak into your valve covers and obviously not so much a good idea. Nor do I like the idea of having oil splashing all over the passenger side of my car.

So do they have "plugs" to fill the valve cover holes or is there something supplementary to do if I were to use a breather filter? At this point, I don't see why companies make those breathers if they are only introducing a leak into your vacuum system and if it's going to cause oil to get all over the car.

Something like you need to find local, shipping going to cost more then the part.
They are called "valve cover grommets"
You can get a baffled kind and then you can run a breather or cap without oil blowing all over the place.

i think they only make a vacume leak if you put a breather on one side and have the rest of the pcv system hooked up. but im not sure.

Hmm, guess I need to do more research - why would you remove the PCV?

I have K&N filters in my covers and I have no issues and I still have my PVC hooked up.

to put cool breathers on it of course!
That is what they used to do. but if you do that you let harmful gas and other vapors into the air. but if you have part of it hooked up you can let air in the breather and it can go through the crankcase and back though the pcv system back into the intake downstream of the maf giving you essentaly a vacume leak. you may not even notice it but its there. I thought that if you have breathers on both you should not have issues

See, my understanding from what I read was that if you add the breather then you're introducing unsensored (through the MAF) air into the intake. I guess it doesn't matter for me since I'm not going to have the MAF anyway... I dunno, we'll see.
