  • I need help realll bad! please look and answer!

I have a 93 firebird formula and I just put a new opti in and it and it wont start I know the firing order is right i checked it like 20 times so I pulled the codes and it gave me code 46 now I have the right key cause it does turn over so I pulled a plug checked the spark and also the plugs were dry meaning its not getting fuel, so i pushed the fuel release valve on the fuel train and its pumping gas to the engine. and the security light is on when i checked what code 46 ment it ment two things came up the key is wrong so the security system turned on and or the ecm is messed up? which would close the injector valves does anyone know whats going on im sooo confusedddd :/ please helppp

get a fuel pressure gauge and actually hook it up, it could be getting fuel but not enough.

unhook your battery and let it sit for a little to reset the ECM.. worked on my dodge when it had the same kinda issue.. ended up being a wire shorting out in the secruity system..

I had the same problem once. if you leave the key in the on position for like ten minutes the security light will flash a couple of times and then it will let you start it. give it a try! by the way the security light is still on now!

What was the original problem? Did you change opti spark because it wouldn't start, or for other reasons? if it was running when you changed opti go back and recheck you have everything plug in correctly. If it didn't start and thats why you changed opti then follow the security problem. Try different key to start it. There is a write up in shoebox about how to by pass the resister plug if you are electrically inclined. let me know what happens after these steps.

I also tryed shooting starting fluid into the throttle body and it still didnt catch which means the injector valves must be closed cause its most deff getting spark ive checked many timesss

i didn't know opti craps could overheat lol.

My car has always had the security issue and it runs. Not sure how to help you, but try the battery and fuel pressure tricks.

The opti spark has no real association to the running hot. The timing sensor could do that by advancing spark to far. I think you need to start over.
                      1. put original opti back in. it was running then.
                      2. See if car now starts.
                      3. If it starts, I would go for Thermostate if that sticks will cause overheating.
                      4. If that doesn't do it . Have the cooling system pressure checked. (I have seen water pump impeller loosen when hot and slow water flow).
                      5. follow running hot path before you jump to ignition problems.

Note: car might have stopped running because excessive heat swelled pistons, rod bearings etc. When done and as soon as car is running CHANGE OIL. Excessive heat breaks oil lub properties down.
