  • Engine Misfire

Just resently my car went weird and was like shakin as i would accelerate, shortly after the check engine light came on, we since scanned and it said cylinder 3 misfire, so we decided to change all spark plugs and wires and put new in, we got that done tonight and there is no change and still a misfire in 3, anyone have any ideas what could be up?

Make sure none of your wires are burnt.

My camaro had a strange missfire for the longest time, eventually I traced it to 2 of the fuel injector electrical harnesses switched. I believe a shop tried to play a trick on me.

            Damn cars.

Yeah, coilpacks. Switch them around and see if the misfire follows the pack.

yea we will pry try that, only weird thing is, i have a slight misfire on cylinder 2 also, but 3 and 5 are on the same coil pack not 3 and 2, its just kinda weird because it happened out of nowehre as i was accelerating from a stop sign.

ive never heard of a double coil pack onyl effecting one.. usually one will not work at all and at best the other cylinder will miss alot when they go bad.. if your having a miss on 2 cylinders on seperate coil packs i would guess fuel injectors might be going/not plugged in you can pick up a cheep tester at autozone or murrays to check out all your fuel injector power lines to make sure they are working... from there if you have power you would have to eliminate the bad injectors easy way is to hit them with like a 9volt battery and see if you can hear a click of it opening.. what size motor do you have? i have injectors lying around for the 3.8 and i think a few for a 3.4

I have 6 stock injectors for his car already that I have had laying around, not sure if they checked it yet today or not, they were going to clean the injectors with the machine and see if it fixed the problem.

wezeles, what size 3.8 injectors do you have? Are they 36#'s from a GTP?

most of my local junkyards are pretty cool they let you walk back and take whatever you want and unless its a huge piece they never charge me for it.. so if i notice a GM motor with the upper intake off i just grab the injectors... never hurts to have them.. but i have to go out and find a window switch for my grand prix so next time im out ill see if i cant nab a whole set...

I am looking for a cheap set of 6 gtp injectors for later on when I do engine work and need the bigger injectors. What year are they from? There are two styles of 36# injectors from the gtp.

just looking for a lower milage <75k miles gtp injectors. Prefer ones from 97-01, I think those are the ones with the same connections. If you can snag them for free or like 10-20 bucks that would be sweet.

got it all good now, it turned out to be a bad coil on the one that 3 was on, still dunno why it misfired on two which was a diff coil, but that was a very minor misfire (according to the scanner), hopefully that coil stays good now
