I would like one, just not for the price for a new one plus paint

it would be very hard to find an ss hood still available in a junkyard...there was a true ss hood on craigslist and it went for $900ish. so that gives you an idea what some people are willing to pay. I would recommend getting a VFN Hood...high quality and its going to have to get painted anyways

S.reef is correct. Finding a good, or even mildly repairable "performance" stocker is going to be one Hell of a search and hopefully it doesn't get more expensive than, perhaps, a fiberglass knock-off. Unfortunately, the hood you're looking for, at least OEM is 12 years old. I'm sure the "barn on the country road" still exsists, but it's going to be a lot of work to find. Good luck and I hope you do. Not impossible, but not, by any means, easy.

yikes, that seems by no means worth it, get an aftermarket hood for 1/3 the price and be a bit unique!

Most of the 93-02 F-Bodies I've seen in junkyards were bought because the owner of the yard was looking for an engine, trans, and wiring harnesses to put the motor into something else (last one I saw was an LS1 from a '00 Z28 w/ 25,000 miles put into a T-Bucket), and they really don't care what kind of shape the body is in. The car I just mentioned was a rollover car, the only good parts were the interior and drivetrain. I bought the seats from that car, as well as the damaged side skirts. The same yard had a gutted LS1 T/A and a '96 Trans Am that was totalled after a car fire did it's worst to the front end.

I haven't seen any SS's in junkyards, only LT1 and LS1 cars that are beyond reparable. Just my own experience though, yours may differ.

My thoughts exactly.....and even if you got lucky enough to do so, my bet is you'd still pay dearly for it.

I just found a SLP LT1 SS hood after looking for 2 years. Paid $400 and had to drive 1100 miles to get it. Picked it up last weekend. Still needs paint but here ya go

LT1 hoods are very hard to find compared to LS1s. They are still out there but the original car either has to be rearended or flooded before a SS owner will part with one that is in good shape. This hood came off a flooded out 96 SS.

Good luck, I wanted only a original spoiler and hood. It took awhile but the fit is perfect and worth the wait imo. It's about how bad you want one really.
