  • 97' Camaro wheel size limits

Hey guys, been forever since I posted anything. Mostly because I havent had any time or money to sink into my car and I guess I've been kinda sulking about it a bit. But now thats changed and within the next month or sooner Im going to start fixing things up for this summer.

One of the things on my list is new wheels. One of the problems Im having is that in any of the vette designs I like from the company I want to buy from, I'm having trouble finding anything narrower than a 9.5" rim. Im worried that might be a bit wide for the front of the car and also what is the most narrow tire I can fit on a 9.5"? 265?

One more thing, Can you fit a 10.5" in the rear without modding anything?

Thanks for any info you can provide. Hopfully I'll be postin some pics of the progress soon.

Welcome back! A 9.5 in the front should not be an issue, I dont think vette rims come in anything smaller then a 9 inch diameter so you may have to look at different wheels if thats what you want. I run ZR1s up front and they are 9.5 with a 275 tre and I have no problems at all. a 10.5 in the rear will fit. Sometimes it requires pounding the inner fender in a little sometimes it doesnt. It also depends on the tire you go with. I have 11s and 315s in the rear with sportlines and they always rub, if you have stock height it probably wont even be an issue. Hope that helps

I have 9.5" all the way around with 275/40/17 on them. Zero rubbing, no issues with them. If you put a 10.5" rim on there, with a 315 tire, you MIGHT need to beat on the inner fender wells a little to get them to fit. But usually corvette wheels are staggered so the rear rims will be 18s. Then you might want to put a 295 tire on the 18s, should fit fine.

Cool, Thanks guys. I might be reconsidering on the rims though unless I find something with a 17" 8.5 on the front. I can get the rims for around $600 but the tires would be closer to $800 which is a pretty big chunk of my car budget. I just bought new tires for the front last fall and it'd be a bit of a piss off to waste them. I may just get my current ones powercoated or try to find another set of C5's with less road rash ( one rim has a pretty good chunk missing).

I thinking of going with the BFG DR's for the back, any suggestions?
