Does the A-pilar covers have to be removed in order to remove the plastic dash piece that houses the ambient light sensor and the security light? I plan on installing my in dash nav system soon and plan on mounting the gps antenna under the dash cover. Thanks.

Yes - the dash pad has a groove that the a-pillar rests in. If you try to remove the dash pad without removing the a-pillar you'll crack it in half.

I'm all too familiar with tearing these dash panels out and putting them back in.

Then again... after doing the swap from 93-96 to 97+ dash myself I guess I should be.
