i highly doubt its a trans issue... probably just doesnt have strong enough synchros to be powershifted. At this point i dont think theres an issue anywhere, just the way it is.

      Alright I have an update...

My alternator has been going bad. I just replaced it this weekend and it turns out that this was a large part of the problem. Throttle response is much better, as is over all power and down low "kick." That being said, its still not perfect - but much better. My gas MPG should be back in the 30s now too

I was going to say something about that, my car acted funny when my alt went bad, terrible throttle response just like youre describing, glad you got it sorted out.

Glad to hear it's getting better the 3800 is known to usually have good throttle response so if i were you i would still look into a cat or an intake of some sort.

Jared showed me the whisper lid he had on his 01, so i am definitely going to look into getting one of those. (where can i buy one of these?)

I just picked up a z28 catback but i wont be putting it on until at least february when most of the winter is past. I wish I had an '00 up with the shorty manifolds instead of my logs. I'm thinking about doing headers and a better cat when i change the exhaust to see if i can get 40 mpg, but we'll see what my budget is when that time comes

just get a whisper lid on camarov6.com they always go up for sale on there. or fullthrottlev6.com I never bothered modding my v6 lid, simply smoothing off the baffles inside the lid and putting a pvc pipe to the TB to replace the restrictor was fine enough for me. Its not like the ls1 where they have the separate MAF to connect to.. I could never justify spending money on something that provides little to no gains on a v6.

little to no gains huh? I would disagree with that. He would see a gain going from the stock to a whisper lid

I compared shaving baffles and pvc pipe to whisper lid, not stock..

yup got my lid from camarov6.com, i think that redfirebird99 is right though, if you want to go cheap just get some pvc and get that silencer out of there. Also if you want to go cheap on headers look for a set of old 2001-2002 stock headers off ebay. Anyways good luck man, i've always wondered what i could get out of some simple tunning with a full exhaust and intake on my car,

Do you think 01-02 manifolds would be the way to go for a daily driver? looks like they are nearly a header anyway.

don't mess with the stock tubular manifolds on your car joel. gains are not there and you have to bend/move your ac lines as the tubulars will hit them.

Find a cheap set of pacesetters and be good to go. BTW, once the longtube headers are sent to the 10 people in the first batch there is going to be some good deals on pacesetters as most of the 10 already have pacesetters

haha cool, let me know when that is I definitely want mid-lengths because long-tubes would catch all the salt and probably rot out faster.

they are tubular and many 93-99 v6's upgrade to these headers, they are better than log style without spending 400 on headers, and since it's your daily driver i wouldn't put that much into headers. Plus there are headers for the 3800 but everyone i talked to said that they are worth maybe 10 hp because of the fact that the 2001-2002 already have tubulars. I saw a set for 50 bucks the other day on firebirdv6.com

take this info with a grain of salt...

headers are nice for these cars. tubular manifolds are not much of an upgrade over the logs, at one point it was believed that they were but it has been proven they are not.

pacesetters can be had for a great price if you just keep your eyes open for them.

the ONLY reason i would go with tube manifolds over headers is for corrosion prevention. Im pretty sure headers wont be a rediculous expense anyway. pacesetters coating doesnt seem to last that long even though mine is still doing great (but mine stays dry). so thanks travis ill look for a deal on some headers when i get the cash.
