  • Vette 4L60e vs Camaro/Firebird 4L60e?

    Hey guys,

Does anyone know for sure if there is a difference between a 4L60e on the Vette and the 4L60e on the Camaro/Firebird? I was reading the post below and according to him it's different. I just need to make sure asap.

Also, does anyone know what it'd take to convert a v6 4L60e transmission to the v8? Different bellhousing? Rebuild? What?

From skimming through.. It seems like he's saying that the Trans case is shorter which makes no sense to me. If anything I would imagine the tailshaft housing and output shaft are probably shorter. I'd have to look into it more.

As far as the 4L60E in a V6 car.. I donno. I would imagine the bolt pattern is the same. Maybe some cheaper internals were used?

C5's the transmission is in the rear of the car, so those 4l60e's (if there 4l60e's) will not work

          LT1 or LS1?

The 4l60e in your '94 because I dont think the bellhousing is removeable (unless you take the whole top cover off? not sure) whereas later v6 4-speeds have the bellhousing which is removeable (then you would need to swap input shafts)

It's a C4 LT1 with the 4L60e. I can't tell for sure what year from the pictures. I'm very interested in buying it, but not if the 4L60e won't work.

yeah Mike's transmissions are great. I have a '94 Z and I toiled for months trying to find one that fit. Bunch of PWM-related differences makes '94 4L60Es a standalone year. Just got it rebuilt, and it was the right choice.

I think I'm all set, but thanks for the offer Mike! I'm looking at an LT1 w/ 4L60e transmission from a '96 Camaro tomorrow with a whole bunch of extra parts from the car (doors, fender, etc) for $1,000.
