Head light motor repair

So I get home the other night late, and when turning off head lights they go down and continue to grind on the inner gear on the drivers side. I thought great there goes 250 dollars out the window. So being the guy I am, I take the driver side head light motor out and take it apart only to find the large gear worn down on 2 sides. Thinking I'm screwed I start messing with it and after puting it in and out 4 times I finally got it to operate correctly. What I ended up doing was taking the large round gear out and rotating it 1/4 turn and put it back together. and it works great now no grinding on up or down. just thought I'd share this as I sure someone will have this problem. Now I just need to save my money as I'm sure it will now break for good next year. but hope not.

I just picked up headlight motors at Advance for about $80 each. A WHOLE lot less than at the stealership!

I will keep them in mind when mine go out for good. Are they new or remanufactured. I don't care just wondering.

Remanufactured. They come with the motor harness and the headlight plugs. It seems like a quality piece to me. I guess I will find out this weekend...

Something I need to think about. The motors on my '86 grind when going up or down. The headlight motors on my '92 run 3 seconds after the lights are all the way up or down.

I'm just hopeing to get through this month then I put the car until some time in April. when I can get new moters and gears.

look online for the brass gears that replace those shitty nylon ones and your set, had mine for four years now with zero problems and never will wear down.

I was just about to throw that out too. Sounds like the plastic gear just can't take it after a while. I believe that mod is like $40. Saw it on FirebirdV6.

I think Hawk's Third Gen sells a rebuild kit with a brass gear.
