  • Tire issues.... Please take a look

This isn't fourth gen specific, but i dont think we have any technical forums divided by anything but generations so i put it here, feel free to move if needed.
Ran over something with my car and it put a whole in my tire. Tire deflated almost completly to the rim within like two minutes, but i was very close to home and got the wieght off it before it got down to the rim. Question that I have is do you guys think this is fixable? I know they can drill a tire out and put a plug in it but I think this might be too big.

    It's about the same
size as my ring finger, I would guess about .5"

speed rated tires shouldn't really be repaired. i would not plug it. Patching is much better

really, Ive already plugged one of my front tires, what is wrong with doing that? Should I just not trust a plug at that high of speeds or what?

Take it to discount and see...how fast did it deflate?

I patched or plugged (dunno what it was) one of my Falkens...then went drag racing.

            plug/patch is the best.
plugs eject themselves at high speeds

took like 2 minutes at most to deflate kyle. How long will a patch take and how much do you think that it should cost?

we charge differently depending on if it is on the car or off. But usually no more than $15 max. Usually it is like $5

That's where I got mine done, except I was lucky enough to have a slow leak, and I drove it over there.

I would just plug it and be done with it. I have never even heard of one coming out...

Belle Tire patches them for free as well. Plugging is frowned upon by tire shops. The proper way is to patch it from the inside. They say the tire speed rating drops by one category when you have to repair it because it can't handle the heat of what it was originally rated for. I got a nail in one of my Toyos a few months after I put them on and took it to Belle Tire and had it patched for free. It has a very slow leak yet and I have to put some air in every couple weeks. I make sure it's on the back of the car. I don't want a patch letting go if I were to be driving at highway speeds or at the top end of the dragstrip and the front tire going down.

if you're going to get it fixed a wouldn't recommend Discount Tire in Norton Shores. they're complete dits' I went there to hav my valve stems replaced because there was a recall on them. I asked if they minded if i wiped down my wheel wells while they had my wheels off. i went out to the shop as the jackass was jacking up my car...and thats exactly what he did. he jacked under the front fender bracket and popped it out a good inch. I WAS PISSED to say the least. Long story short i ended up fixing it while laying on the nasty floor....they won't be getting my business again. This aint the first time they've messed up either
