Air Bag Light

Over the weekend I changed out the wiper switch in my steering column of my 94 Firebird.

I followed the Service Manuel instructions on how to disconnect and reconnect the air bag.
Put my steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
Pulled the Fuse
Disconnected the two Air bag harness wires under the dash.
I pulled out that Plastic unit out (which I think they refer to it as the airbag cam, but not 100% sure)

I let it hang there as I changed everything else.
Then when I put it back together the instructions said, if you have not turned the steering wheel, or you have not pressed the release spring, then you do not have to reset the Air Bag Cam, and since I did not do these things, I did not reset the Air Bag Cam (plastic thingy).

So I just installed it, and then put the rest of the steering wheel back together.
Then I plugged in the 2 harness wires for the Air Bag
Followed by putting in the fuse.


Now when I turn the car to the run position the Air bag light blinks 7 times and then stays on.

I thought maybe I needed to clear the codes so I disconnected the battery and reconnected it after 5 minutes.

Still I get the 7 blinks then solid Air Bag light.

Any suggestions?
I do not have a scan tool, so my troubleshooting is limited.

Do I need to get a scan tool and reset the Air Bag codes?

Any other suggestions?

So, no one here has ever had their Air Bag light come on and stay on after doing working on their cars?

I see a lot of information on Hondas, Lexus, Fords, etc. on how to reset an Air Bag light after doing maintenance work, just cannot seem to find anything of substance on Firebirds or Camaros.

Seems like some vehicles, if you do work on it and remove the battery or disconnect the Air Bag and reconnect it you have to take the car to the dealer or a shop and have them reset it.

Some cars you can just jumped a couple of connectors.
Some cars don’t show history, and only show current state.

So I am wondering on the 4th gens when the light comes on because the Airbag was disconnected or fuse was removed. Then if that fuse was put back in or the Airbag was reconnected if the Light normally stays on till a shop or dealer resets it?

i just did a key lock cylinder on my 96.. i am getting the blinks without it staying on, only when i start it.. i of course reset the cam bearing even though i did not move it.. perhaps try it.. mine blinks but goes off..

I will reset the cam and see how that goes..
