lacking performance need help

I have a 93 Firebird Formula and It has a cool air intake and new plugs and wires but still lacks in speed and performance any suggestions? It has 168K miles and a rebuilt trans was driven hard for awhile but I just bought it from a friend. it tops out at 110-115 and I know it should go faster than that.

my friends auto ls1 had a speed limiter of i think 118-120 lol

It could just be tired...168K hard miles would do that...need more info.

Does it smoke at start up? Hesitate under acceleration? Idle/run rough? What rear end?

If it's got a 4.11 rear end, yeah, it might top out at 115...

It has a auto with 273 gears

I had a '93 Formula with an auto and 2.73 gears. It ran 14.18 bone stock - I never modded it. If your speedo goes to 150 MPH, the limiter doesn't kick in until about 165, but if it's got the 120 MPH speedo, it's got a 115-118 limiter. Being that it's the first year for the 4th gen body style, it's kind of odd. It still uses a chip in the PCM, whereas 94-97 could be flash programmed. I'm pretty sure it's also has a speed density tune from the factory as well. Other than that, the optispark could be at fault, as well as it could need a tuneup/fuel filter/etc. Do all the normal maintenence needed on the car and see how it responds.

alright ya ill do some maintenance on it and see what happends the gauges stop at 115 but ill get it to 115 and the engine will like sputter till I let of that gas and it will ride fine at 105 idk I just thought the LT1's went faster but if It has restrictors on it ill have to find them and see about removing them 110 isnt a bad speed but It deff sucks lol a friend of mine has a 97 trans am and it tops out at 150 I wish my car could go that fast lol

Dude, where did you get that Formula? That looks like MY Formula and it was stolen from me by my ex gf. There are not many yellow Formys around. Mine was not a factory yellow car either - it was originally red. Don't worry, I'm not going to try and get it back or anything, I just wanted to know what the hell happened to it. Could you check and see if it has signs of originally being red? There's some paint flaked off under the hatch area and the engine compartment has been undercoated.

I got the car from my friend and its original color was black. and ya my friend was on US. 23 when he did got up to 150 he was racing a camaro ya street racing u can get in huge trouble if u get caught but its the dumb ****s that are the ones that do where I live we have country land where cops never go so its straight
