  • 94 dash to 99

    i need help on thiss i have 94 dash that i wanna swap for 99... but i dont know what wires i need from the 99 harness? if anyone has done this before and like to make some cash to help me on the swap let me know, also wanna make sure i have everything

          yes.... that's all the wiring.... ducking i believe i wanna check with someone if anyone know what /if i missing anything.. i think i'll need the air controls from ls1 version cause the rear defrost is located there... if all the bolts i have now work for it that'll be sweet!, just the wiring i'm really unsure of also something has to be done for the speedo to work? i just wanna make sure it's done right with the exception of someone who's done it goes a lot faster that way

            Wiring is identical except for the gauge cluster and the rear defrost button. In 93-96, the fog lamp is located in the left HVAC control with the headlight and courtesy light dimmer, but in 97+ they moved it to be an independant button on the center radio bezel. The cool part about it is that you can pop the fog lamp switch out of the 93-96 left HVAC piece and then it snaps right into the center 97+ radio bezel.

            You will need to extend the wires for the fog lamps to reach all te way to the center radio bezel, and I lengthened my wires for the gauge cluster by 15 inches just to give me plenty of slack.

            All the bolts and location for mounting the new dash is the same as the bolts and such for the old dash. Main thing to do is when you're tearing out the old dash, unbolt your steering column! There's a "V" shapped metal bracket that holds the steering column in place with two large bolts. This will also make the install a lot easier.

            Otherwise, it's all really straight forward. Tear the old dash out, lengthen and rewire the gauge cluster using the new plug and wiring diagram according to the link I sent you in PM's a few days ago, and then install the new dash.

            Edit: Just remembered, I also lengthened my rear hatch release because it moved from the right side of the knee bolster to the left side of the knee bolster.

              ok... well that's cool..... i dont really understand the wiring diagram to much... maybeif i had everything in front of me or looked at it harder but not to sure bout that yet... and the plug meaning the plug that's behind the new cluster dash right?

                You'll have to take the plug that currently plugs into your 94 gauge cluster and pull the pins out from the back of the harness and then plug it into the new plug, and that will plug into the new gauge cluster.

                  can you ssend me the link again and also i called the dealer and they said to get your speedo recalibrated you have to give them your old speedo you vin number miles on the car and they send it out to other company

                    That's to get the gauge cluster's mileage recalibrated, not the speedometer itself. The speed *should* be right on -- it was for me, atleast, which I was surprised about because my ZR1s and new tires threw the speedo off by about 5mph. I don't know if the speedometer some how recalibrated itself or what, but it matches my GPS down to the individual mile per hour.

                    On that page, he mentions the part # for the plug he had to buy for the gauge cluster and I believe he might mention another part # for the rear defrost or something else. I only bought the gauge cluster plug so far, I haven't bought the rear defrost and still haven't wired my rear defrost up since I don't intend to be driving in a situation where I'd need it.

                      Is the wiring and the swap the same for the 93 (pre OBDII)?

                        The OBDII port will be different but it should be OK -- the OBDII port doesn't change when you change the dash. You'll have a new piece that surrounds the OBDII port (it's the very bottom plastic piece that goes from the diagnostic port to the pedals and has a square cut out for the port. It should be the same for OBDI and OBDII.

                        Otherwise, the only wiring changes that need to be made are for the gauge cluster itself and some of the switches (fog light, defrost, etc)
