  • Low Idle - Why didn't anyone tell me?

    Today's chuckle...
First of all, I don't need a lecture on the proper way to store a car for the winter... OK, maybe I do, but I'd be too lazy to do it anyway... especially the part about twisting the key once in a while.

So, the battery on my improperly stored Z goes dead. The weather warms up, and my battery's dead. I jump it, and it won't idle. Gota keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. Still won't idle. Figure it must be the battery not taking a charge. Buy battery. Car still won't idle.
What could it be? dirty throttle body, MAF, IAC, BMFG, or some other ABC device.
Did a little web searching and I find this line about a procedure for "relearning" the idle!? WTF! First I ever heard of that.

Well, it didn't cost anything to try... and damn if it didn't work! Well, I'm pretty sure it worked... and it's cold again and I hate driving it in the cold with the top down.

    Why didn't anyone tell me?

True. It was probably the original. It was a Delco that had one of those Green "lights" that has never lit up.

lol! I have an aftermarkiet battery in mine. . . The stock one died on the last owner from the shock to the system of adding an aftermarket stereo and huge amp. . . lol A battery that's in a car for 255,000 miles will sometimes do that to you. . . . lol

if your stock battery lasted 255,000 miles that is VERY impressive.

I feel your pain!! Last season I did the same thing....but the battery didn't die I had it disconnected for a few weeks while I worked on it (winter mods doncha know! ) Well the time comes to start it.....and I'm all excited thinking this is gonna be freaking great!!! But what do I get instread??!?!?! WHOLLY FUCH!!!!!!! I thought that the engine was gonna break the mounts and jump out form under the friggen hood!!!! So now I'm thinking,...ok great?!?! Did I miss a hose going back on? Did it really need those "extra" parts still lying on the garage floor??(I mean c'mon who really needs the AIR pump anyhow???) Now what!?!?! I'm still under warranty but ummm..... what??? I have to put her back to stock, to take it in??? Not happening,...well as you learned and did I the PCM needs to as well. Also it needs to learn PT and WOT again also.....

BTW....my dumbass, all I had to do (this is really stupid) was reflash my pcm with my tune........

Mine still has the original delco battery. Only 66k on it but it is seven years old. I find that impressive. Regardless, soon as I can afford to its getting replaced this year just cause of age.
