Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

I found a green 1994 z28 with 87000miles on it for like $2500. so i called and asked about it and the guy said that the motor had a bottom end knock just wanted to see if anyone thinks i should buy this car and what a bottom end knock is and if its easily fixed. i asked the mechanic at work about it and he told me maybe a push rod and crank shaft, is he right. please let me know asap.
I would say borrow it from the guy and take it into a local shop. A lot of sellers will let you have you mech check it out before you buy. If he doesn't I say somethings fishy and you need to find out why he won't let you. If your mech says it should be cheap hell yeah. Buy that thing!
Well, a pushrod is on the top end so your mechanic is off there. A bottom end knock is probably related to the crank, usually a spun bearing on a rod or something like that. The rod end is getting slapped back and forth on the crank. Even if it is that you can get a crank and rods cheap enough that I you could rebuild the bottom end reasonably. Not $1000, for cast crank and rods, maybe $300-$400. Tack on new rings and bearings for another $100-$200.
I'd say if its clean being low mileage like that its definetely worth a good look. See if you can knock him down a little on price maybe if so and like I said its clean with low mileage, I would. Careful of your mechanic, sounds like he doesn't know where a pushrod is located.

Jim, I looked it up on kelly blue book (kbb.com) and not knowing the options but I just put in some typical options and got $5900 retail value and $4000 private party. So that's actually not a bad price. I might try to knock them down to $2250 or something. Use the engine knock to your advantage. Get on KBB and put in the right options and condition and find out exactly what its worth. Hell if its nice enough you could sell your 95 to pay for an engine. A nice one.
Yeah I would ask for $2000. He is a dealer. The sticker price is the start for bargaining. It does have a mechanical flaw so throw that at him. If he really wants it off his lot he'll let it go for that otherwise let it sit and take up space. Thats we way we got two cars for the price of one. A '92 Bonneville w/ 150K and a 99 Jimmy with 90K. for $9000. both in great shape.
Don't be afraid of asking a lower price. Those dealers get them dirt cheap like $500 and then sell them for many times that amount.
Well I Went To Look At The Car...
The Motor Was Pretty Bad But I Took It For A Drive. It Needed Brakes And Was Out Of Aline Like I Never Seen Before And I Drive Wrecked Cars At Work. The Interior Was Trashed And Would Need Replaced, O Yeah The Exhaust Leaked You Could Tell And Hear It A Think It Was A Small Crack. The Exterior Would Need Tons Of Body Work And A Knew Paint Job It Was All Messed Up. I Could Go On All Day Of All The Problems This Car Had But I Offered The Guy $1200 But Dont Even Think I Realy Would Have Wanted It. The Person Who Owned Before Has Some Problems Letting A Car Get Like That.
I think you should do it! If anything does happen, you always have the car you have already to drive. Also, the most expensive problem would still put your investment amount well below book value. . . I think you should do it!
