  • Is this something I should worry about?

After driving for a bit highway and then going to slower areas I get about a 25 degree rise to 235, and at the same time my oil pressure drops to 15 from 30 after I slow down and idle/wait at a stop sign.

So is this a problem or normal. I haven't really noticed the temp that high, and it was not really hot today.

I've had oil pressure problems in the past, but got a new pump like a year ago.

235 is a little on the hot side for any engine. And F-bodys are famous for heating up. For the heating up part I would install a 160 hypertech thermostat. I would then send my PCM into any of the number of companies to reprogram your fans to come on earlier. www.madtuner.com is one of those companies. You also have the option to just put in a switch that you can buy from jegs or summit to manually turn your fans on ealier. Your oil pressure dropping while at idle is normal. Anytime the engines idles slower, the oil pump is being driven at a slower speed hence the lower oil pressure. 15 at idle is fine IMO, and a good rule of thumb is 10 pounds of oil pressure for every 1k RPM. But if you replaced your oil pump with a high performance, high volume pump in the past you really shouldn't be having oil pressure problems. What type of oil are you using anyways?

      1st things 1st here!!

My 3838 don't run hotter than 160-180 no matter waht so if your getting that hot the 1st thing you need to check is the water pump.
If it's leaking out the weep hole.
If it is you will need a new water pump.

2nd, I would just replace your thermostat if your water pump checks out.
Just replace it with a 180 one, cheeper and the 160 will need a new sending unit for the fans.
IMO, the 160 don't do enough for HP or overall performance and how.
And why send out your computer if you don't need to, it's money save for a nice day

Your oil pressure sounds fine and yes it does go up and down with engine RPM's.

When was the last time your coolant was changed?

Thanks for the replies! I use synthetic oil.

Actually it might be time for the coolant, I haven't changed it since I got it which was ~3 years ago and I'm not sure when it was changed before that. It's got 119k miles currently.

          I'll check it out
