Obd 2? Obd1?

How do I know if my car is obd 2? I know they switched in 96 but I read that some 95's were obd 2.

Normally the Aldl connector too but thats not the case on these cars

1995 v6 3.8l cars had OBDII, but we are talking lt1 here

my 95 z28 is what they call OBD 1.5, it is an OBD 1 computer with an OBD 2 connection. You have to have a special cable for your OBD 2 scanner to plug in.

i figured that would be the exception since that was the crossover year for the V6 as well.

Some hondas switched over early too.
But the general rule of thumb is obd2 came on at 96. If you have ever seen a obd2 connector they look different than obd1 connectors.

What do they look like/? I'm looking at a gauge that works only with obd 2 so id like to know if i can use it or not.

I believe that they look very similar, but I don;t know the differences. If you are looking to buy a scanner, try to find one specifically for a 1995.

First Picture is what an ALDL Connector looks like (OBD1)
Second Picture is an OBD2 Connector

I also beleive obd1 is a 12 pin connector and obd2 is a 16 pin connector
