  • What guages to get?

I am gonna get a guage pod and am trying to figure out what guages to get. im looking at a nice cheap package that lets me choose from 8 different ones. i want to do a voltmeter for my car audio electronics. the other 2 I dont know what i should do. My options are below.

    Boost- dont need it
    oil temp
    water temp
    oil pressure
    vaccum
    air/fuel
    trans temp

any help would be appreciated. if there is something else you would recomend let me know. i can get the a pillar guage pad with 3 nice looking guages for $130 so thats why im leaning this way

depends on what you have now, if you already have water temp and oil pressure, I would go oil temp and trans temp

        i have
        vac/boost full sweep electric
        Trans Temp full sweep electric
        Fuel Pressure full sweep electric

They are all Sport Comp 2 gauges so they match the stock cluster well. i hated going with the pilar pods as they scream rice to me, but i had no choice really

mind you it was like $500 in guages/pilar for them as well.

out of my 4 gauges, oil temp and my digital tach (and shift light) are my favorite two... you actually get useable data from them

actualy fuel pressure wouldent be a bad idea. but what do you need trans temp for. unless your constantly beating the hell out of it like auto crossing or towing its point less. don't get gauges just to have them. thats ricer mentality. i saw a camaro with a gauge pod setup with a narrow band a/f ratio, a water temp and a clock. i about cryed

trans temp is very useful when you are running your car hard. I have one in my truck and the trans runs 30-40 degrees warmer just in warmer temperatures. I havent even gotten to tow or offroad with it yet, but im sure ill really see some temps then... i notice it fluctuate everytime i go WOT more than once in a couple minutes.

just like an engine oil temp gauge, its there to let you know when you need to give it a break.

Trans temp is a good idea for me as when i'm sitting on the Trans Brake with the 2 step bringing up boost at the line, i want to know if i have enough trans cooler or not. very good idea for an auto car as temp kills auto's...and not a bad idea for road race setups.
