Alright, here is what you have to do:

With your key in the start position(Engine off) hold the TRIP RESET button.(the one all the way to the right by your RPMs above the well you know where it is) Hold it for 12 seconds and the oil light will start to flash and thats how you know its down. Easy Enough

hey if a check engine light comes on then goes off will that thing still be able to read the code? mine came on the other day and i shut the car off then turned it back on and the light was gone?

Yes, it will. My scanner will read any code that the PCM, Airbag, ABS, or transmission computer has ever thrown, with the exception of any that may have happened before a complete reset. I love that feature, because it validates the reliability of the car. . . I'll bring it to the meet and greet if you guys want me to! Just let me know. I can read trouble codes, as well as view a direct feed of all engine, transmission, airbag, and ABS systems. It's pretty neat!

That sounds like mine, except I have to wait until the flashing action stops, then it's done. After watching Angie's sig I hope that doesn't put me into a seizure next time.
For each diff vehicle I have, I gotta keep tearing apart the owners manuals to figure out how to reset the oil change calc, and to figure out the time change on the clock (I skip the Hawk clock change, don't drive it most of the winter time period)
Took me 4 or 5 oil changes on my S10 before I could find that dang filter without a book. after the first or second time, I could remember it wasn't near the engine, but I just kept forgetting where to find it.

if the holding the trip down doesnt work than you can turn the key from the off position to the ingnition on position no the start... just so the lights kick on the dash 5 times starting from off... then it shoudl flash your warning light a few times and reset it if it isnt acctually having a problem... another thing i just did this on my car... the sending unit might be clogged i just took the wire off un bolted it and found a speck of crusted oil in the grand prix it looked like... my oil pressure was fine and my oil level was fine but the dummy "oil light" would stay on unless it was reved up past 3,000 rpm where it would push it enough for the sensor to pick it up... could just be that sensor aswell shouldnt be too expensive last time i got one it was 18 bucks

I had to pick one up recently, its located behind the intake manifold and you need a special socket to remove it. Then you have to have a dealer order it in for you for $39 it sucks ass.

no way just for the oil sending unit? you can rent the tool at autozone and alsong as you dont break it return it free of charge... and i thought they were all basically the same style just a pressure sensor with a electrical sending unit... id say call autozone or murrays before you try the dealership i have yet to find a part they dont have for cars more than a couple years old... and besides that its just a dummy light does nothing to the computer or how the car runs... worse comes to worse take out the bulb behind it... just run an oil pressure gauge and make sure you keep oil level up..

I've found autozone to not have stuff on several occasions. I've been through several of their electrical parts and had to take back most of them at least once cause they didn't work for long or not at all. I've switched to Advance for my general stuff, they can get things AZ can't, plus if you have to order anything at Advance its usually only a day, not like AZ where they only get orders once a week. On a sending unit like that, I'd go to a better chain like Napa or the dealer. Just to be safe.

trust me this is what ****ed up my H/C install, the dealership check everywhere witin 182 miles didn't have it. Most places don't carry those sensors and the one for the 98s in particular to that year so that doesn't help. Every other place quoted me $38 or more as well call for yourself if you'd like.

With problems like this, I'm glad a have a 2nd gen with no computer at all in it.

I would try the reset though before you go searching for parts, it might not be anything at all.

Yeah, I didn't even know they had an oil change light. I thought he was talking about the oil pressure light at first.

thanks for all the help but i solved the problem, i had to take my car to the dealer for some shit and they reset it, it has not been on since

hey if you guys are ever in the three rivers, kalamazoo area and need some replacement parts let me know because I can get all gm, acdelco, and whatever else there is for dealercost at my grandpa's chevy dealership, i just got a fuel filter for like $2 and a power window switch for $12 when advanced auto parts was trying to charge $14 for the filter and $55 for the window switch.
