Holy crap, I didn't think leaving that business card on would lure you here! Welcome to the site, we'll have to meet up some time. I see you driving around Big Rapids all the time.

Anyways, back to the temp sensor problem. I'd start off checking for voltage and a good ground but both times I've experienced a nonworking temp gauge is has been due to a cracked temp sensor. I bought one for my Sonoma for like $14 at Autozone but I'd suggest checking the wiring first because its free.

Driver side head by 1 & 3 plug. Single wire, check wire, it can get close to manifolds/headers & burn.

Had the same problem last year, Coolant temp sensor, $11. Not sure how hard it would be to do on your Z though.

I'd put my money on a burned up wire if it's on the side of the head. Do you have headers? Only my 1994 Z28 I had longtubes and used to burn up plug wires all the time.
