  • HELP: Camaro LT1 M6 to LS1 A4 Trans Crossmember Question

OK, well I have been searching around for about an hour and I haven't found my answer yet. Now one it hasn't been poster (Highly Doubt It) or it's right underneath my nose and I just can't see it.

    Situation:
I am putting an LS1/4L60E into my 94 Z28 that was a M6 originally and I got the engine k-member bolted in, but when I went to bolt the trans member the bolt holes didn't line up on the drivers side. It is about 2"-3" to far back.

I have read that if you are doing a LT1 M6 to LS1 M6 swap then you are OK to use the LT1 K-member. I also read that for the LT1 A4 to LS1 A4 swap they moved the bolts holes for the LS1 from the LT1. So you can just weld a tab on the LT1 trans member and it will work.

BUT what I did not find was if you are going from a LT1 M6 to LS1 A4 which trans member to use or what you have to do...

My only thought last night while I was sleeping was if the bolt holes on the LT1 body for the M6 and A4 trans crossmembers are in the same positions then I could just get a LT1 A4 trans crossmember and weld on a tab.

If you guys could help me out that would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Thanks in advance!!

Any particular reason you don't want to keep the Six Speed?

I don't actually have the six speed it's just have the six speed body, I bought only the shell as that was what I needed and he didn't have the trans. Trust me if I had a six speed trans then it would be a six speed.

You should just buy an LS1 car and be done with it.

HAHA! No I'm not insane though I think I am sometimes when I'm out there wrenching on the car going why didn't I just buy a complete car... Then I think about it and it is way more satisfying to actually have built the car from the ground up rather knowing I did it than buy a car someone already did.

I've been there and done that, I had a Black 98 Trans Am WS6 M6 that had a head and cam package with some suspension mods. I loved it but didn't feel like it was my car, everytime someone asked if I did the work I felt dumb saying no the person before me did the work.

No problem and thanks for the encouragement! This has project started in November and I am starting to wonder if it is ever going to get done. It will and actually pretty soon I just need to answer my question about the crossmember. And as for a deal, yes I got a great deal. I bought a 2001 Black SS with 60K and about $5K in mods that was hit in the rear for $6K and then I bought a 95 camaro roller for $1K. So for $7K plus other little odds and ends needed to complete the swap I have an 01 SS with only 60K miles and with $5K in modifications. I felt like it was a pretty good deal! haha!

I'm hoping that it is at the MIFBody get-together in May!

No reason to feel dumb. My car had most the stuff on it when I bought it. I'm doing some stuff to it also, way too many things to do to these cars to have to do it all yourself. The way I see it, I got a lot of free upgrades.

Yeah that is a good way of putting it, because there are a lot of things to do to these.

Just to let everyone know that a LT1 A4 trans cross member works for this situation. All you have to do is notch all of the holes in the cross member and notch the holes in the trans mount, you can't notch it very much as you will see but it helps. I'll try to get a picture of it, I already bolted it in so if I have time I'll take it out and shot it.
