  • Manual Window Moves in door - 00 Firebird

I went with manual windows as there are usually fewer issues, but my driver side is moving around now at the back of the door. Anyone have experience with this?

First thing I would check out is the presence and condition of the felt-covered window guide brackets bolted to the top of the bare doors. You should be able to see the felt face of them when you look down the channel when the window is down, but you won't be able to access the brackets until you remove the trim panel.

Cool - thx. I started doing a little more research and that is what I was coming up with. The window goes up and down and seals fine when up, but you can rock back and forth on the rear with the door open - moves about an inch.

Yeah, sure sounds like the guides are either loose or completely missing. I had the exact same problem on my vert when I first got it.

Sometimes you can find these parts still on the parts cars at Parts Galore -- last time I was scouting PG, it seemed that the Downriver location had the most 4th Gen F-Bodies. The NOS ones from GM are already expensive. If you can't find used ones locally, I like Cleveland Power & Performance and Trans Am Creations for good used parts. Trans Am Creations is in Alabama and ships everywhere; I'm pretty sure CPAP does too.

Thanks ktl711. I pulled it apart yesterday and discovered he rear bracket was there but missing the felt. I found the dorman part on eBay for 15 shipped so I ordered it. Should have it fixed next week.

I received the part and put it in. DONE!

Speaking of Parts Galore - I scored a Pontiac CD Player out of a Grand Prix that looked to be in mint condition for $15! It needed a light behind the clock. I swapped it in and it is PERFECT for the 00 Firebird. Got that and my relays last weekend I love that place - really thinking of picking up a supercharger to add to the top of the 3.8 for an interesting project...

Sometimes the little fixes can make a big difference. Glad this one is off your list now!

Superchargers are possible, but as I understand it, the 3800 supercharged was a different block with a different orientation, different internals, and putting it in an F-Body will cause clearance issues.

Other than that, it's a perfect fit!

People have done it -- definitely check it out for yourself on the 'net, but I'm just saying it's not a straightforward swap.

TrickyTransAm -- do you have anything to add about the 3800 Supercharged engine in an F-Body?

Not really much to add. You are correct, Different heads, different rods etc. Unless your planning on making big power, it's cheaper to just put in a LT/LS. It's a fun little motor to hot rod, but gets expensive quick.
