well no luck for me, decided to drive the car I just got and I think the thermostat is stuck closed, car started to get pretty warm and the was no hot coolant in the overflow tank. I havent checked yet but will, I hope its not the pump. any guesses? I will post the result. Allen 96 camaro z28

Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement (5.7L VIN P)
Removal Procedure- Open the radiator drain ****. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator to below the level of the engine coolant thermostat.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Close the radiator drain ****. Tighten
Tighten the radiator drain **** to 1.5 N·m (13 lb in).

Remove the air intake duct. Remove the air cleaner. Remove the inlet hose and the clamp from the water outlet. Remove the water outlet bolt/screw from the water pump. Remove the water outlet. Remove the water outlet gasket. Remove the engine coolant thermostat. - Clean the gasket surfaces of the water outlet and the water outlet pump.

Install the engine coolant thermostat into the water pump. Install the new water outlet gasket. Install the water outlet. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Install the water outlet bolt/screw. Tighten
Tighten the water outlet bolt/screw to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
Install the inlet hose and the clamp to the water outlet. Install the air cleaner. Install the air cleaner duct. Notice: When adding coolant, use DEX-COOL® coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50 000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.
Add engine coolant, if required. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .- Start the engine. After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, inspect for leaks.

the top hose was not as hot as you would think, and the coolant in the reservior was cold, tha fan was on when I turned off the car, my first guess would be thermostat, second would be pump. that list is nice but I think thats why my car repairs cost so much lol they have you take off the head before checking the thermostat lol. just kidding I hope its nothing more the car was sitting for the winter I am hoping its just a stuck thermostat, I just had them check it last thursday for level and what temp it was good to even asked them if they thought it needed flushed and they said it looked good. I was goint to have it flushed just to do it. I did the oil also. Allen___________________________________________

took the old thermostat out put it in boiling water it didnt open, bought new one installed it everything appears good. now off to the oil leak............. thank you for the help, Allen___________________________________________
