The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. On the 4th gens, the RS was just the v6 with an appearance package and an option for better suspension.
Z28 was the base v8, SS was the upgraded v8 with better suspension, hood, and spoiler. Not sure on the B4C (Police combo) cars, I know they were a v8 but what they were over a Z28 not sure.
98+ ss and z28 had the same suspension unless it was ordered differantly from slp. 17.s and ram air,exhaust was about the only differance.
B4c are badgeless and body color roof
There are two ways you could get a 1le. Factory or from SLP but they are not the same

I am newer to the 4th gen F body and I saw the post on the Firebird so I am asking the same on the Camaro.
What is the difference between the base car and the:
RS
Z28
SS
Police pursuit car
I thought for my first real post I should make it a good one!
Boy, where to start...it does vary slightly from gen to gen.
On first gens, and RS option could be had on the base car, Z28, and SS.
The Z28 came with the 302DZ motor and upgraded suspension and handling package.
The SS was the top level package that opened up many more engines and options that weren't available any other way.
No police package was available.
On second gens, things changed subtly, and get a bit confusing:
The RS was still around as an appearance option.
The Z28 could be had with a couple of motors, but was actually phased out of production in 75 and 76. No Z28s were available. Was reintroduced in 77.
The SS was only around until 1973, and could still be had with the 396/402 motors. No SS after 73.
Third gens change significantly.
82-86 no RS available. Only base and Z28. RS came back in 87-92 and was again an appearance package.
No SS available at all.
The police package (B4C) first showed up in 91, and could only be had on an RS Camaro outfitted with Z28 drivetrain but no Z28 option. Only 592 B4C Camaros were made in 91.
For fourth gens, everything changes again.
RS continues as an appearance package only with a 6 cylinder.
Z28 continues to be the base V8 platform.
SS shows back up in 1996, but built by SLP.
B4C police packages are available on debadged Z28s with the 1LE brake/suspension package.
GM doesn't make anything easy...lol...

I think we need to put together a definative list of generation model and options (motor, suspension, etc.) and place it under some general information sticky.
I think it would be cool to have all the generations and obsure stuff as well.
if we made one for firebirds all it would have to say is... firebird>camaro
