  • Lid or Fenderwell?

Which style air intake system works better (performance)?

LS1 Lid/front of radiator style? maybe with a home-made extension similar to the slp cold induction

Or a LT1 air intake extended into the fenderwell? I have a K&N FIPK right now but i'm thinking a LS1 lid would be even better than the cai i have

Based on what I've noticed it would SEEM that the LS1 style is exposed to alot more incoming air...

I don't think you will pick up a noticeable amount of power. I would only do it if you wanted to clean things up a bit, or if you got the parts for really cheap. I have a K&N cold air kit. However I got a great deal on a brand new Firehawk ram air box a few months ago. I plan on putting that on, for looks more than performance.

yea i think it will clean up the bay abit, and it's a simpler design and such, looks like alot less bends etc

plus i could sell my current intake setup and get my money back and more

would the LS1 lower airbox simply replace the radiator shroud? It looks like the shroud is built right into the lower box right?

The lower airbox bolts to the radiator support and isn't part of the shroud. I'm not sure exactly how the LT1 setup is, but the lower LS1 airbox holds the radiator in place on top and has 4 bolts on the radiator support. I'm not sure if there is a height difference in radiator supports between LT1 and LS1. The LS1 intake setup stock sucks and has only maybe a 1" high opening and about 10-12" wide. It doesn't pick up any moving air as that part of the nose is closed off to the outside. If you get a SLP cold air kit, it has an aluminum scoop that you cut out the lower airbox and it sits in front of the radiator and directs air that's coming up from the bottom into the airbox. I'd stick with the K&N you have vs the cost of the LS1 stuff plus needing a good lid which is $100+ and the SLP CAI which is about another $100.

I can make a induction system similar to SLP's for about 10-20 bucks

Yes i'm aware of the hood clearance issue which I'm going to do some experimenting with and I'll probably just do the free intake mod, unless I'm missing something aftermarket lids seem to be very similar to stockers

Just by looking at the fenderwell, it just seems like the area is boxed off from the outside without much exposure to a good source of air flow (prob not that big of a deal anyways but i would be cool to have the lid setup, probably wont work but its worth a shot)

Aftermarket lids are NOTHING like the stockers. They look similar on the outside, but inside where it counts is where they are totally different. There's no silencer box that the stockers have. All the aftermarket lids are smooth and properly shaped for better air flow than the stocker. The stocker has ridges that mess with air flow to keep it quiet.

I can take care of the ridges no problem and the silencer after the lid can be removed as well

the one thing I basically have to figure out is how to get it to fit under the hood without hacking a bunch of stuff up. If i can get it to fit i could always upgrade to an aftermarket lid
