  • Please help!! Swapping gears

My girlfriend has a LS1 Trans Am, and last year her dad put 3.73 gears with a locker in the rear end. She wants to go back to stock now but I'm clueless when it comes to rearends. Can someone help me answer a few questions??

    1) Can you keep the locker with the stock gears?
    2) How much can you get a set of stock gears for?
    3) Would someone be willing to help with the swap?
    4) If I offered the gears and locker for a set of stock gears how much money does someone think I can get?

We paid $1,200 for it but it's just not able to be daily driven like it used to.

not daily driveable with 3.73s?? or with the locker? unsure about the locker but i was thinking of upgrading to 3.73s or even 4.10s. mines a daily driver during the days it isnt raining or snowing. the car in flint or cadillac right now?

I was just looking at priced for gears and they go for about $250ish range with a rebuild kit add another $125.

Gas mileage, she drives 90-100 on the highway, she wants to drive it in the winter.

      Swap me and pay me

Do you think anyone would be willing to swap gears?? What about making money from it??

I would try to find someone with a stock rear end they are trying to sell. It would be cheaper, and you don't have to try changing gears yourself. I paid less than $200 for a complete rear end with 3.23 gears, and the stock posi unit. I was considering building it up, but I might just dish out the dough for a 12 bolt?

          I have 3.42 gears and a posi from a 40k mile 02' WS6 that I will most likely never use. $200 and they're yours.

I swapped rear ends in my 89 T/A last friday night in a new personal record time of 1 hour 7 minutes. Didn't bleed the brakes though so add another 20 minutes for a complete job.

I don't think it would be to bad. The worst part would be frozen bolts, those are always a P.I.T.A. I'm not sure if I'm going to sell my rear end yet. I won't know for at least another month. I have the one in my T/A now, and the one sitting the the garage. I'm sure someone on this site has one laying around they would give you a deal on?

You just have to coast around corners so it don't lock up on ya.

I would go with Formula Z if I were you

I would jump right on the deal if it weren't for the fact of the difference in mileage.
