cops dont have quotas and what not like everyone think they do...unless its somthing strange their department has put together but some people out there get these strange ideas about cops and the kinds of things they do for tickets...all they need is people who are speeding, and trust me there are plenty out there
kind of interesting on where people get these ideas ...I'm going to school to be a cop (almost done) and hopefully be in a department somtime next year...and every ride along/interview and the whole 9 yards non of them know of any department that are out just to nail people for anything and everything

i was gonna say, i personally know a retired state trooper, i had him for a criminal justice class at gvsu, he made it very clear there were never quotas in policing..

• NO! A popular misconception, there is no "Quota" for tickets at HPD. Some officers write more than others, and there is a Traffic Unit whose primary responsibility is traffic law enforcement.

Thats right from the city of Holland...I guess it can't be any more clear than that, although she is talking about HPD (Holland Police Department) but like it was said before, officers in Michigan dont have quotas...

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. --
Redford Police’s recent policy change pays officers time-and-a-half their hourly wages, according to the number of tickets written, and not the actual hours worked.
For every two traffic tickets an officer writes, they will get paid for one hour of overtime, even if writing the tickets took less than an hour, according to Redford police.
On average, a Redford Police officer makes $41 an hour for overtime.
Redford Police said they instated the police traffic detail program as an incentive for officers working overtime to concentrate on traffic enforcement.
The new policy is controversial among residents.
“They’re just making money,” said Eric Norman.
Redford Township residents said police seem to be everywhere -- handing out $140 traffic violations.
“Being a college student, you need as much money as you had,” said Norman.
Police said the change have increased police presence and revenue in the city.
Officers said every time the program goes into effect, the fatality numbers decrease, and the program is for the citizen’s safety.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Activists and clergy canceled their demonstration scheduled for Monday morning in front of the Redford police station in opposition to the department awarding officers overtime and incentives for meeting traffic violation quotas set by the police department.

Two religious groups said their fears of racial profiling by the Redford Township police were calmed when they met with township supervisors.

Redford officials said they would be changing their policy of paying Redford police officers overtime based on the amount of tickets written.
"He (Redford officials) was able to sit down and answer some of our questions and he also reversed the policy where his officers are not involved in an incentive program," said Rev. Charles Williams II of the Mary Church Terrell Council.

A demonstration is being held today at the Redford Township, Michigan police station to protest the policy of the police department to award the officers with overtime pay and incentives to meet ticket quotas set by the department.

Redford Police department's new policy of paying officers time-and-a-half wages for the amount of tickets they write for traffic violations , regardless of how many hours they actually work, is coming under fire by the activists and clergy of the city.

The officers are being paid one hour of overtime pay for every two traffic tickets they write. The average overtime pay for these officers is $41 an hour.

Many Redford Twp. residents are not happy about the new policy. One college student from Redford told a reporter that the police are just trying to make money and that he needs all the money he has to go to his college expenses.

Other residents are saying the cops are being seen all over the city now, and are giving out $140 tickets for traffic violations.

Redford Police said they began the police traffic detail program as an incentive for officers working overtime to concentrate on traffic enforcement.

The new policy has increased the presence of the police being seen out in the community as well as adding to the city's revenue.

i've had a few leo friends. all of them have told me that while there is no "quota" system, patrol officers who do not write "sufficient" tickets are looked over for promotions or pay raises.

so sure, they may not have them officially, but volume is certainly something used in the merit review process.... its quite simple, there are only so many criterion that can be used objectively for a leo, this is one.
