  • anyone familiar with LT1 heads? need help

im looking at a set of stock, ported heads. the guy just sent me pictures of them, but i dont know enough about heads to tell them from a set of untouched stockers. if anyone could take a look at the pics and give me some feedback id appreciate it!

what kinda feedback are you looking for, they look like a set of portmatched stockers with the flashing removed and some finishing to the valveshroud andbowl

I want confirmation that theyve been ported because i dont know what to look for. I know they are stock heads. I might pick these up this weekend, i want to make sure im not paying the price of ported heads if nothings done to them. I was going to do a set myself, but i found this set at a hard-to-pass price.

They look like they've been cleaned up, but theyre far from being hogged out. I can't tell if they've blended the bowl there? Looks like just the walls were smoothed out and maybe ports matched a little.

Hard to tell, but they have definatley had work done to them, even down in the bowls. It's a risk buying someones "port job" You can really eff up a head if you don't know what your doing.

I'll be devil's advocate...it can be really hard to screw up a port job unless you're running a really high performance engine.

            Is it a street application?

Unless there are obvious differences, you should be o.k.

            Race application?

            Ah, different animal.

And unless the provider of said heads can show evidence of a 3+ angle valve job, etc, etc, , eh, I would say you have some idea of what you're getting.

            Does it match your application?

            That's another story....

Most people would have no reason for doing a 3 angle valve job unless it was ported as well.

Not that it's a bad thing...

The place where you pick up most of a difference is the bowl work and you can tell someone was in there but without a valve out of there it is hard to tell. The springs are worth a couple hundred so if you were to do your own you would have to buy them.
