  • So has anyone ever used Hypertech Power tuning module.

I am just wondering if anyone has one of these and if so did it do anything?

It is a Hypertech power tuning module for a LT1

haha well i havent heard any good things about these or bad things so what have you heard about them. I know it would be better to go get a tune of course but what has anyone heard about them.

Sounds just like the hypercrap chips they sell for TPI cars. Basically they take a chip and, knowing absolutely nothing about your car, try to make changes to optimize your tune. Usually all they do is add a couple degrees of timing or something retarded.

seems like it would be nice for doing speedo calibration when you upgrade wheels and tired and adjusting shift points, but i wouldn't play with the air/fuel ratio or anything more involved with the engine for fear of the hypertech messing up something serious as described in the ls1tech thread.

I had one for my 00 S10 Xtreme V6 auto and liked it and I picked up a used one for my V6 Camaro. Sure it's not ideal for making maximum power but it's nice for a little pickup and changing the shift firmness and shift points makes a huge difference in driveability. You can change tire size and gear ratios easily with it. If you have a stick it's not really worth it, but if you don't have access to someone who can tune your car and make adjustments later on, it's not too bad. I definately wouldn't pay the $300 or so the go for new again.

The one for a LT1 is no where close to $300. If someone wanted a new one, I could get them one for $179

Sounds like you had a Power Programmer like I did for my 99. This is just a module for the LT1. From what I gather in the description this doesn't have that capability, it just adjusts timing and fuel that's it.

So with that said I would also agree that for $200 there are a lot of other things you can do that will be much more bang for your buck IMO.

However, with the HPP3 (Hypertech Power Programmer III) I agree with Wade that while the tuning really isn't worth a crap, for adjusting shift points, gear ratio, tire & wheel size changes, shift firmness, and changing your fan temp (if you change to a different thermostat) the HPP3 is a very inexpensive tool that has good benefits for the average person to make those adjustments to a late model Fbody. You can pick them up on ebay usually or a lot of the other forums have them for sale too for under $150 usually.

I've Had 2 HPP III one for the 99 Silverado and the other for the 02 Silverado. I used them for changeing the tire size so the computer could shift the trans properly.

Yeah, they are great for that and the other adjustments you can make. I just wouldn't recommend them for the power tuning. If anyone wants a good tune, buy a good software package for your laptop or take it to a reputable shop for a good dyno tune.

I agree Both trucks actually preformed BETTER with the factory tune then they did with the HPP tun. Thats why I only used them to correct tire size.

Yep, I found out the same thing with the 99 Z. But what a difference it made in the performance being able to adjust the shift points and shift firmness!!!
