  • Whats my car worth?

I'm trying to figure out what my car is worth without getting a formal appraisal. I'm due to renew my Hagarty insurance and need to come up with a "stated value". I originally used $10k but I don't think that's enough to replace the car in case of a total loss. I've searched on Hemmings and other classic car classifieds to find one in similar condition, but everything is either a $2000 basket case or a $30,000 resto.

    Some details about the car:

    1968 Firebird coupe

Painted STS blue in 1995- some scratches, scrapes, bubbling and dings, very presentable however. We'll call it a "10 footer"

400ci/ 4spd with mild cam and head work out of a 76 trans am

    Stock open 10 bolt

15x6" Rally II JJ code wheels from 76 trans am

Mostly Stock interior- bucket seats with headrests from 1969 trans am

    Issues:
Starts hard when the engine is hot- it's never left me stranded, just slow to turn over- may also be due to advanced timing due to cam

    Scratches on glass

wipers don't work at the moment- going to replace the switch this week

Speedometer doesn't work at the moment- I believe its a broken cable- also going to replace this week.

Here are some photos for reference

I dont know but based on your other thread i say you bought the car right. Id list it high and see what happens. Thats an appealing color, someone might fall in love with it.

I think you would have no problem claiming 15k as a replacement value, possibly higher.

I have no idea how many miles are on the car. The odometer says 62k but I know the cluster has been replaced.

Might be worth getting an appraisal done. Those guys seem to grossly inflate the value of a car, which for insurance purposes is good.

If hagerty is anything like Grundy, the price difference in premiums between say 10k and 15k is very little. Over value it and sleep well at night.

I have Red Alert insured for $25,000 agreed value and I think your car would be worth more.

I would say put a stated of at least 20k on it. I dont know what the difference would be to throw more of a value on it but it shouldnt be much to jump it up to the 30k mark

Mike if i was you i would just go get an appraisal done. the 100-150 its going to cost you is well worth it. and most of the guys who do it ask you for a rough estimate of what you want it to be worth and then go right around that.

i just had mine done on my car and wanted 25k value and he put it about 26500 just so it would show a good number and they wouldnt dispute it.. i sleep much much better now
