Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

Who is running a 5 - 6 speed tranny out there in their first gen?? My old Saginaw 4-speed has seen better days, and I am in the market for an upgrade.
First thing that comes to mind is a Tremec, but they are $2-3k. Anyone running something different, like a newer Camaro trans and like it???

Where I work we are a dealer for kiesler engineering.
We have installed quite a few Tremec 5 speeds in C2 and C3 Corvettes. They are a great piece. Because the first gear is so low you can easily get away with a 3.08 axle ratio and you still have a overdrive so your RPMS on the hwy will be under 2,000. Send me a PM if your interested and I will get you in touch with someone who can get you some pricing.
Some obsitcals you might encounter with a newer 6 speed are hydralic clutch, instead of manual and non cable driven speedo.

If you don't want a lot of work and hassle of upgrading to hydraulic clutch and all that an easy solution would be to just buy a Richmond super street 5 speed. I'm pretty sure they are close to a bolt in. Still can use your original clutch linkage. However, they are just over $3k. Just another thought though.
Thanks for the offer. I have had my eye on Keilser Auto website for some time now. From what I have read, it sounds like I can use a stock Tremec tranny and not really need the modified version for the camaro. Besides, I do not have the center console, so I am flexible on shifter locations. It is more about comfort than console for me.
I will let you know though, if I do choose to go that route.
The 5 speed Tremec's have manual clutches right??
I have seen the RPM sheets for the trannies. My 3:31 gear will be real nice in first with the low gear and very nice with the OD gear. Basically saves me buying a rear end.

Later,
Correct the 5 speeds Tremecs come with manual clutch.
We just put a tremec in a 1967 big block Vette with a 3.08 axle. The owner was is so pleased that he can through it in 5 gear at 45 mph and the car putts along at 1,000 rpms.
i have a muncie 4 speed tranny that i would sell for the right price. make me an offer what ever it is worth to you if you want it. i wouldnt want to much for it.
Imagine that big block vette, rolling down the highway at 55 mph in 5th gear, nice and quiet, and downshifting into 3rd and hammering it!!!!! AWESOME!!!
