Never seen anybody put a 1st gen rear into a 4th gen, but my guess is that it would not fit too well. I'm guessing the bench would sit too high to go over the driveshaft tunnel, and anyone taller than a 6 year old would be banging their head on the roof...even worse than it is now.Originally posted by Camaroz2894 View Postyou guys know if a pair of 69 rear seats would fit a 4th gen?dementions of the older seats would be helpful to see if they'd fit i'd like to have the bench like seat in the back.. anyone want to make a trade.. with 4th gen seats?
Plus you wouldn't have a middle seat belt...you'd have to fab some mounting points...Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! It annoys me more then anything.

I know when I researched a 70 z28 build where they put in 4th gen rear seats that the widths were different and they had to do some customizing to make it work as the width and such were different. I would imagine trying to put 1st gen seats in a 4th gen would be the same issue.------------------------------------------

yea i know.... but i like the whole bench idea... rather then having a space in the middle with not even an armrest or anything.... you can get pair older rear seats for not a bad price.. plus it's real black leather looks sweet... get those rear seat delete boxes make them alittle shorter and should clear the tunnel better

I don't believe a bench seat is a terribly difficult thing to build from scratch. The pre-'49 crowd does it all the time. I suspect that would be easier than modifying a '69 bench to fit your application.
If you don't want all that trouble, consider measuring your available space and mounting points, then going to your local junkyard and finding out what benches might be good swaps. Sure, the car might end up with a Dodge Caravan seat in the back, but if you or a loved one is handy with a sewing machine nobody will be able to tell after you've gotten it all installed and finished.

There's a reason 3rd and 4th gens have buckets on the bottom and a bench type back...THAT BIG FLOOR HUMP! It's gonna look retarded and out of place with a bench bottom in there, plus you lose the ability to flip down the seat back if you put a bench bottom since it will have to sit up so high. You're gonna have a huge gap under the seat to fill with a bench botttom sitting on the floor hump. Nobody but a small kid will be able to sit back there. The stock bucket bottoms are sitting on the floor and there's still not much headroom sitting there.
